Exchangeable Nozzle 1 Safety Instructions WARNING: Observe and follow all safety instructions, the general safety instructions included as a separate document, as well as the specific safety instructions in all other related documentation. WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Introduction Intended Use The exchangeable nozzle with rotating bar may be used only in a TrueCoat applicator for surface application of hot melt adhesives and similar materials. Any other use is considered to be unintended. Nordson will not be liable for personal injury or property damage resulting from unintended use. Intended use includes the observance of Nordson safety instructions. Nordson recommends obtaining detailed information on the materials to be used. Exchangeable Nozzle 3 Installation WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Installing and Removing Nozzle Refer to the applicator manual Disassembling and Cleaning Nozzle. Rotating Bar Drive With separate rotating bar drive: WARNING: Place protective covers on moving drive elements. Operation WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Setting Rotating Bar Speed The speed of the rotating bar drive is either set manually or is a factor of the line speed signal (key-to-line). The control element used to set the speed setpoint manually (e.g. potentiometer or control panel) is located either on the melter, on a separate control box or on another component of the application system. Speed controlled by the line speed signal can also be adjusted with the same control element.
4 Exchangeable Nozzle Maintenance WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Replacing Rotating Bar Replace the rotating bar if the surface is damaged. Rotating Bar Drive on the Nozzle 1 2 3 4 6 5 Fig. 3 1 Motor 2 Bracket 3 Bracket fixing screws 4 Exchangeable nozzle 5 Stud screw 6 Coupling WARNING: Hot! Risk of burns. Wear heat-protective gloves. 1. Stop the material supply to the applicator and stop the rotating bar motor. 2. Only on the nozzle side: Release the stud screw (5 ) from the coupling (6 ) and the fixing screws (3 ) from the bracket (2 ). 3. Detach the drive group, which consists of the motor (1 ), the bracket (2 ) and the coupling (6 ), from the exchangeable nozzle.
Exchangeable Nozzle 5 Rotating Bar Drive on the Nozzle (contd.) 4. Detach the exchangeable nozzle from the applicator. Refer to the applicator manual Disassembling and Cleaning Nozzle. 5. Extract the rotating bar sideways out of its track. 6. Visually inspect the rotating bar track; clean and polish if necessary. 7. Slide a new rotating bar into the track. 8. Install the exchangeable nozzle in the applicator again and attach the rotating bar drive by logically reversing steps 4. to 7. Separate Rotating Bar Drive The way in which a separate rotating bar drive is connected to the applicator is a factor of the available space in the parent machine and other conditions specific to the customer. Thus the procedure to detach the separate rotating bar drive cannot be described precisely here. In general: 1. Stop the material supply to the applicator and stop the rotating bar motor. 2. Detach the protective covers from moving drive elements if necessary. 3. Disconnect the drive from the rotating bar. 4. Then proceed as described under Rotating Bar Drive on the Nozzle, beginning with step 4..
