AMA Chapter #755 June, 2016 Newsletter of the Pekin RC Club http://pekinrc.com/ Officers This past week some members found some perfect sittin around weather at the field. Some even brought planes and flew. PRESIDENT Denny Baker VICE PRESIDENT Wayne Hood SECRETARY TREASURER Jim Roach Appointments WEBMASTER Curtis Colburn EVENTS Donna Smith SAFETY Denny Baker MAINTENANCE/ GROUNDS Chris Leibel PUBLIC RELATIONS Curtis Colburn EDITOR Dennis Shoemaker Thanks to Donna Smith for the photo. The Next Meeting is Saturday June 18, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the Hermon D. Lowery Field

Hi Everyone, The flying season is in full swing with many activities going on. President Denny Baker Please be careful and stay away from the construction and workers at the end of the field. If you have to come in from the west, you can stay a safe distance from them and still have plenty of field to land. Several events like an open house, X-treme flight championship, float flys, and fun flys are going on and can be a lot of fun. Check some of these out sometime and you just might meet some very nice people and learn something about the hobby you wasn't aware of. Anyone got any ideas how to deal with the gnats? Those darn things really are bad this year. It is really starting to heat up, so stay hydrated and use sun screen. Have fun and be safe. Denny 2

It looks like the typical flying weather we have been getting the last few years. Cool windy wet spring to super hot summer. The field has been looking very good so far this year. Thanks to Chris the building and grounds leader. Vice President Wayne Hood Pekin airport will be holding its annual Wings and Wheels event on June 18. We have been asked to display models like we have the past 3 years. Also we will direct ground aircraft as they taxi in and out of the airport. I will be asking the same members that have been directing traffic in the past and if I need additional members I will be contacting other members that might want to help. Any time after 8 am you can drive into the gate to the right of the main hanger unload your vehicle then park your car in the grass where we have been parking in the past. We are usually finished by 1 to 2pm. There are food and drinks available all day to purchase. You can bring your own food water and cold drinks if you would rather. Things to bring would be a chair, hat, sun screen and a canopy if you would like to. There are plane and helicopter rides. Look at the flier for further details. Any variety of models to show to the public is what it s about. Publicity is good for the club. Bring as many and what ever models you want. planes helicopters gliders drones Any questions or suggestions call or email me Wayne 3

Wings and Wheels on Saturday, June 18 Tell the traffic control person you are with the RC Club and they will let you thru to the entry gate. 5

Meeting Minutes for 5/21/2016 Secretary/Treasurer Jim Roach President Denny Baker opened the meeting at 6:35 PM. 12 members were present and 2 guests, Lynnae Bessler and Jayden Harms. April s Meeting Minutes-approval moved by Bill Swearinger and Seconded by Moe Neibecker. No discussion. Passed unanimously. April s Treasurer s Report-approval moved by Curtis Colburn and Seconded by Chad Rowe. No discussion. Passed unanimously. New member Jason Harms was introduced. Jason is from South Pekin and has extensive heli experience. Denny acknowledged Wayne s efforts to get power back. Big Bird has been tentatively planned for the third Sunday in September. Donna and Mike Smith have decided to run the Big Bird this year and it will be a tribute to Hermon Lowery. The standard limits on plane size will be observed minimum 80 monoplane or 60 biplane. Vice President Wayne Hood will check into the Wings and Wheels at Pekin Airport. It is June 18 and we will have the usual Pekin RC Club static display and provide aircraft ground traffic direction. Specifics will be in the June newsletter. Tentatively planning a Breakfast Fly-In first Saturday in August. Under New Business Moe brought up the planned night-fly in August with final date to be determined. Moe also brought up possible crop-dusting operations soon in the field to the East. Moe highly recommended all members leave during crop dusting operations so they don t get dusted. Safety Chairman Denny Baker reminded all members to absolutely not fly over or near any pipeline workers as they are working along the West end of the field. Grounds and Maintenance chairman Chris Leibel thanked the mowing crew. All is running smoothly. The new mower has reduced the mowing time. Gas money will be needed next meeting. The field has been sprayed for weeds and bugs. The water fountain has been patched, however the water is off and only turned on when needed. All mowing crew.the key must be removed from new mower to not run down the battery. Chris will get with Jim to cut old power pole into 18 pieces for seats around camp fire. 2 nearby clubs have events announced. Streator RC Flyers has a Fun Fly on June 25. Washington RC Flyers has their annual Open House and Swap Meet on June 12. Adjournment moved by Curtis Colburn, seconded by Paul Bessler and unanimously passed. Minutes by Dennis in Jim s absence 6
