KTM Motorcycle 1050/1190/Super Duke Please read each step carefully before you start the install to insure no damage is done to the Motorcycle.
The first step in installing the Smart Line AP900cm cruise control on your KTM motorcycle is to decide the location that you would like to mount the cruise control module and the cruise control switch. On the KTM 1190R Model a good location for the cruise control module is under the Left side cover of the motorcycle. On the KTM 1190S model a good location for the cruise control module is under the passenger seat between the frame rails. You can mount the unit upside-down using the mounting tabs to secure the cruise control module to the frame. On the KTM 1290 Super Duke a good location is under seat. *Temporarily mount your Smart Line AP900CM module into position.
INSTALLATION of THROTTLE HARNESS 1. Disconnect the negative side of the battery located under the seat of the motorcycle. 2. Remove the Fuel Tank. 3. Remove the Left Side Air Intake Tube 4. Locate the OEM Throttle Harness Connector. 5. Unplug the OEM Throttle Harness Connector. (see below picture)
6. Plug in the Throttle Harness (5008215) from Cruise Control kit to both ends on the OEM Throttle Connections. 7. Reinstall the left side Air Intake Tube. 8. Route the Throttle Harness wiring over the Intake Tube and back to the Smart Line AP900cm Control Module.
INSTALLATION of OBD CONNECTOR 1. Locate the OBD connector under the seat of the motorcycle. 2. Plug the OBD connector into the OBD plug. 3. Route the wire from the OBD connector to the Smart Line AP900cm module.
Mounting & Wiring Harness for Trail Tech Switch 1. There are two places to mount the Trail Tech switch. 2. Location 1 is between the mirror bracket and the turn signal. (This is the easier of the 2 locations to mount the switch.)
3. Location 2 is between the Turn signal and the left Hand Handle Bar Grip. 4. Carefully loosen the mounting bolt on the underside of the turn signal switch and slide the switch to the right about ½ inch. 5. Mount the Trail Tech switch Part number 8500-RS to the handle bar. 6. Once the Trail Tech switch is mounted tighten to 1.5 foot pounds. 7. Route the Custom harness back to the Smart Line AP900cm module. Reconnect the negative side of the battery Remember that a neat & clean install does count. Now is a good time to check your work. Make sure all of the Smart Line AP900cm cruise control wires are securely mounted all the way back to the control module. *Continue on next page
THROTTLE POSITIONING PROGRAMMING It is required on all motorcycles to program the throttle positioning to the cruise control system for optimal operation of the system. 1. Turn ignition switch to the ON position, DO NOT start motorcycle. 2. Turn cruise control on. (center button) Top = SET Center = On/Off Bottom=Resume 3. Press and hold the Brake, then press SET (top button) 4 times. You will hear 4 beeps. Continue to hold the brake for the next step. 4. Press RESUME (bottom button) 1 time. You will hear 1 low beep. Release the brake and you will hear 1 high beep. You are now in the pedal set-up mode. Press SET (top button) 1 time and release to learn the values of the throttle in the idle position. You will hear 1 high beep. 5. Twist the throttle grip to full throttle, once at full throttle, Press resume (bottom button) to store the throttle position signal outputs. You will hear 1 high tone beep. Slowly release the throttle grip and it should keep sounding low tone beeps. Release the Throttle Grip completely. 6. Press and hold the brake, then press set (top button) 4 times you will hear 1 long beep. Then turn the Motorcycle off. 7. The Throttle positioning signals are now stored in the cruise control module. Congratulations! You have now completed the install of the Smart Line AP900cm Cruise Control For your KTM Motorcycle. Take your Motorcycle out for a test drive. CRUISE CONTROL FINE TUNING ADJUSTMENTS Always adjust the Init 1 st before the Gain INIT Speed Adjustments Low System INIT :is distinguished by sluggish throttle response when pressing the Set key to engage the cruise control. The result is a drop in speed which then returns to set speed. High System INIT: is distinguished by overshooting of the set speed. To enter the adjustment mode follow the following steps. 1. Start the motorcycle. 2. Turn the cruise control on. 3. Press and hold your brake and continue to hold until you are instructed to release it. 4. Press the set button four times. You will get 4 beeps from the cruise control. 5. Press the resume button three times. 6. Release the brake. You will hear 3 Hi tone beeps. 7. Drive the motorcycle to a convenient speed. 8. Press the set button. 9. If the cruise control drops speed as you press the set button this is the adjustment you will make. To increase the init speed, press the set button and release. This will increase the amount of time it takes to engage the cruise control. If the cruise control overshoot s the set speed this is the adjustment you will make. To decrease the init speed, press the Resume button and release. This will decrease the amount of time it takes to engage the cruise control. You can continue to do these adjustments until you feel that the cruise control is responding as you like. 10. When the cruise control response has been adjusted to a satisfactory level. 11. Press the set button 4 times and you will hear 1 long beep. This will confirm and save the adjustments that you have made.
CRUISE CONTROL FINE TUNING ADJUSTMENTS Always adjust the Init 1 st before the Gain Gain Adjustments Low System Gain: is distinguished by sluggish throttle response when traveling up or down a hill. Excessive overshoot of the final set speed. High System Gain: is distinguished by overactive speed adjustments and excessive throttle motion or surging. To enter the adjustment mode follow the following steps. 1. Start the motorcycle. 2. Turn the cruise control on. 3. Press and hold your brake and continue to do this until you are told to release it. 4. Press the set button four times. You will get 4 beeps from the cruise control. 5. Press the resume button four times. 6. Release the brake. You will hear 4 Hi tone beeps. 7. Drive the motorcycle to a convenient speed. 8. Press the set button 9. If you have Excessive throttle motion (surging) this means that your gain is set to high. To lower your gain press and release the resume button. Every time that you press the button it will lower your gain. Once you are happy with the throttle settings, go to the side of the road and press and hold the brake, press set 4 times and you will hear 1 long beep, the cruise control has learned the new settings. If you have Excessive overshooting gain is set to low (this is when you press the set button and it speeds up and then it sets) Press the set button, turn off the cruise control and retry to set. Continue doing this until the cruise control no longer overshoots the set speed. Once you are happy with the throttle settings, go to the side of the road and press and hold the brake, press set 4 times and you will hear 1 long beep, the cruise control has learned the new settings.
