If the lift does not respond to the handheld control: Verify that the control is plugged in to the actuator; Up Button Ultra Care 4000 Down Button Make sure the battery is connected to the control box (See page 18); Charge the lift if needed; Contact EMSAR for parts or service (page 21). Figure 16 - Using the Handheld Control 5.8 Instant Boom Stop The lift boom is designed with a stop-movement safety feature that automatically stops the travel of the lift boom when an obstruction is encountered. To restore normal function, remove the obstruction. Figure 17 - Storing the Handheld Control on the Pushbar 14 Ferno-Washington, Inc. 234-2117-01 May 2003

Ultra Care 4000 Using the Lift 5.9 Manually Lowering the Boom If the power fails while the lift is carrying a load, pull up the actuator release ring (Figure 18) to disengage the actuator and allow the boom to descend. The further the ring is pulled, the faster the shaft will descend. Let go of the ring to re-engage the actuator. Note: If the power fails while the lift is not loaded, charge the lift or contact EMSAR for parts and service (page 21). Actuator Release Ring 5.10 Rolling the Lift Roll the lift on smooth, unobstructed surfaces. Do not attempt to cross obstacles with the lift. Move the lift around obstacles, or clear obstacles from the path of the lift. Actuator Unit Figure 18 - Manually Lowering the Boom Use the pushbar handles to roll and steer the lift (Figure 19). Never push or pull the boom to move the lift. Pushing or pulling the boom can cause the lift to tip. For more maneuverability when not carrying a load, lower the boom and store the spreader bar on the rear of the lift (Figure 18). See Storing the Lift, page 10 for instructions on removing and storing the spreader bar. Avoid obstacles that could cause the lift to tip. Steer around obstacles or clear obstacles from the path of the lift. Do not use the boom to move the lift. This can cause the lift to tip. Use the pushbar handles to move the lift. Figure 19 - Rolling the Lift Ferno-Washington, Inc. 234-2117-01 May 2003 15

Using the Lift 5.11 Loading the Lift To pick up a body or casket: 1. Make sure the lift legs are locked in the extended position. 2. Roll the lift as close to the body or casket as possible. Position the lift so the majority of the weight will be centered under the spreader-bar assembly, mast and boom. 3. Engage the wheel locks. 4. Raise or lower the boom as needed to position the spreader-bar assembly over the body or casket. 5. Disconnect the D-ring end of the straps from the spreader-bar assembly. 6.
