Service Information Letter Issue Date: June 19, 2006 Accelerated Brush Wear 9910591 Series Alternators INTRODUCTION: Kelly Aerospace Turbine Rotables recognizes that certain alternators were manufactured with brushes that historically have exhibited accelerated wear. This condition may result in premature brush exhaustion, which results in the loss of output from the alternator. On August 18, 2004, a new brush was introduced in these alternators, in order to increase the reliability. Since the introduction of the new brushes, data indicates that brush life has increased substantially. SCOPE: 9910591 Series: Vendor Part Number, ASG10001-11, and ASG10001-12 with Serial Numbers A-105196 through A-175657 manufactured on August 23, 1995 through August 17, 2004. Note: Vendor Part Numbers ASG10001-17, and ASG10001-18 contain second-generation brushes and are not affected by this SIL. On Black and Silver data plates (New, Figure 1) the two key values required for eligibility are: 1. VENDOR P.N. = ASG10001-11 or ASG10001-12 AND 2. SER NO. = A-105196 thru A-175657 On Red and Silver data plates (Overhauled, Figure 2) the two key values required for eligibility are: 1. ORIGINAL MFG. = AERO ELECTRIC AND 2. S.N. = A-105196 thru A-175657 Figure 1 Figure 2 Data Plate (Black/Silver) for New Alternator Data Plate (Red/Silver) for Overhauled Alternator COMPLIANCE: Kelly Aerospace recommends that all affected units be replaced at the next 100-hour/annual inspection. Alternators with more than 700 hours of time in service are not affected by this bulletin. Page 1 of 1
