TITLE FLIGHT CONTROLS - ELEVATOR TRIM POINTER ASSEMBLY IMPROVEMENT EFFECTIVITY MODEL SERIAL NUMBERS 525B (CJ3) -0001 thru -0194 The equivalent of this service bulletin has been incorporated on production airplanes -0195 and On. REASON This bulletin will improve the elevator trim wheel installation and reduce possible incorrect indexing of the elevator trim pointer to the trim tab position. DESCRIPTION This service bulletin provides the parts and instructions necessary to improve the installation of the elevator trim wheel and complete operational checks. COMPLIANCE OPTIONAL. This service bulletin can be accomplished at the discretion of the owner. A service bulletin published by Cessna Aircraft Company may be recorded as "completed" in an aircraft log only when the following requirements are satisfied: 1) The mechanic must complete all of the instructions in the service bulletin, including the intent therein. 2) The mechanic must correctly use and install all applicable parts supplied with the service bulletin kit. Only with written authorization from Cessna Aircraft Company can substitute parts or rebuilt parts be used to replace new parts. 3) The mechanic or airplane owner must use the technical data in the service bulletin only as approved and published. 4) The mechanic or airplane owner must apply the information in the service bulletin only to aircraft serial numbers identified in the "Effectivity" section of the bulletin. 5) The mechanic or airplane owner must use maintenance practices that are identified as acceptable standard practices in the aviation industry and governmental regulations. Prepare the airplane for maintenance. A. Make sure that the airplane is electrically grounded. B. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position. C. Disconnect electrical power from the airplane. (1) Disconnect the airplane battery. (2) Disconnect external electrical power. D. Attach maintenance warning tags to the battery and external power receptacle that have "DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" writtenonthem. 2. Remove the pilot's seat to get access to the elevator trim control. (Refer to the Model 525B Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Flight Crew Seats - Maintenance Practices.) 3. Remove the elevator trim control wheel and elevator trim pointer assembly: NOTE: Make sure to put a mark on the pedestal to indicate the position of the elevator trim pointer assembly before you remove any part. A. (For airplanes -0001 thru -0034) (Refer to Figure 1, Detail B.) Remove and discard the parts that follow: Four NAS1189-06P16LKH Screws One 5565756-3 Elevator Trim Wheel One 5565755-6 Spacer One 6360846-1 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly One 6360846-13 Elevator Trim Pointer. B. (For airplanes -0035 thru -0161) (Refer to Figure 2, Detail B.) Remove and discard the parts that follow: One 5565756-3 Elevator Trim Wheel One 6360846-1 or 6360846-15 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly One 6360846-13 Elevator Trim Pointer One 6661042-15 Spacer. C. (For airplanes -0162 thru -0194) (Refer to Figure 3, Detail B.) Remove and discard the parts that follow: One 6360847-1 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly One 6369847-14 Elevator Trim Wheel. 4. Install the new elevator trim control wheel and elevator trim pointer assembly: A. (For airplanes -0001 thru -0034) (Refer to Figure 1, Detail C.) Install the elevator trim control wheel and elevator trim pointer assembly. (1) Install one 6361009-8 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly and one 6360847-2 Elevator Trim Indicator with the kept hardware. (2) Install one 6360847-13 Elevator Trim Wheel Adaptor and two 6661042-16 Shims with four MS24693S29 Screws. Page 2 Revision 1 - January 21, 2015

(3) Install one 6361009-1 Elevator Trim Wheel with four MS24693S30 Screws. NOTE: Make sure to align the new pointer assembly with the mark on the pedestal. B. (Refer to Figure 2, Detail C.) (For airplanes -0035 thru -0161) Install the elevator trim control wheel and elevator trim pointer assembly. (1) Install one 6361009-8 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly and one 6360847-2 Elevator Trim Indicator with the kept hardware. (2) Install one 6360847-13 Elevator Trim Wheel Adaptor and two 6661042-16 Shims with four MS24693S29 Screws. (3) Install one 6361009-1 Elevator Trim Wheel with four MS24693S30 Screws. NOTE: Make sure to align the elevator trim pointer assembly with the mark on the pedestal. C. (Refer to Figure 3, Detail C.) (For airplanes -0162 thru -0194) Install the elevator trim control wheel and elevator trim pointer assembly. (1) Install one 6361009-8 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly with the kept hardware. (2) Install one 6361009-1 Elevator Trim Wheel with four MS24693S30 Screws. NOTE: Make sure to align the elevator trim pointer assembly with the mark on the pedestal. 5. Measure the distance from the back of the 6361009-1 Elevator Trim Wheel to the base of the 6361009-9 Elevator Trim Pointer Assembly. A. (Refer to Figure 1, 2, or 3 View A-A.) Measure the distance from the back of the elevator trim wheel to the base of the elevator trim pointer assembly. (1) If the distance is more than 0.08 inch, remove the 6661042-16 Shim(s) as necessary. (2) If the distance is less than 0.05 inch, add the 6661042-16 Shims as necessary. NOTE: The 6661042-16 Shim is 0.02 inch thick. (3) If the distance is 0.05 to 0.08 inch, go to next Step. 6. Remove the maintenance warning tags from the battery and external power receptacle. 7. Connect external electrical power to the airplane and turn on electrical power. 8. Do a no takeoff warning (elevator trim) check. NOTE: This procedure must be done with the aircraft on its landing gear, or with a squat switch breakout box installed, the speed brakes retracted and the flaps in the up or approach setting. NOTE: If at any time during the check, the NO TAKEOFF light is not as it should be as indicated in a particular step, the trim wheel will need to be adjusted. Step 9 provides instructions to adjust the trim wheel. A. Move the elevator to the neutral position and install a clamp to hold the elevator horn to the horizontal stabilizer. B. Align the trim tabs outboard trailing edges with the trailing edge of the elevators. C. Put an inclinometer on one elevator trim tab, in line with the trim actuator and the elevator trim tab hinge line, and set the inclinometer to zero. D. Move the elevator trim control wheel until the elevator trim tab is 6 degrees trailing edge down. (1) Make sure the elevator trim indicator pointer is approximately in the middle of the TO range. (2) Make sure that the NO TAKEOFF light in the annunciator panel is OFF. Revision 1 - January 21, 2015 Page 3

E. Turn the elevator trim control wheel in the NOSE UP direction and set the elevator trim tab to a position of 9 degrees trailing edge down. (1) If the NO TAKEOFF light is ON. Adjust the trim wheel. Go to Step 9. F. Turn the elevator trim control wheel in the NOSE DOWN direction until the NO TAKEOFF light goes OFF. (1) Make sure the elevator tab movement is at least 8 degrees trailing edge down. G. Turn the elevator trim control wheel in the NOSE DOWN direction until the NO TAKEOFF light comes ON. (1) Make sure the elevator tab is 3.0 degrees, +1.0 or -1.0 degree, trailing edge down. H. Turn the elevator trim control wheel to the full NOSE DOWN (trim tab trailing edge full up). (1) Make sure the NO TAKEOFF light stays ON. I. Turn the elevator trim control wheel to the NOSE UP direction until the NO TAKEOFF light goes OFF. (1) Make sure the elevator tab shows 3.0 degrees, +1.0 or -1.0 degree, trailing edge down. (2) Make sure the elevator trim indicator pointer is within a pointer width of the forward line of the TO range or the pointer will need to be adjusted. J. Turn the elevator trim control wheel in the NOSE UP direction until the NO TAKEOFF light comes ON. (1) Make sure the inclinometers on the elevator trim tab show 9.0 degrees, +1.0 or -1.0 degree, trailing edge down. K. Move the elevator trim to the full nose up position so the trim tab trailing edge is full down. (1) Make sure the NO TAKEOFF light stays on. L. Turn the elevator control trim control wheel in the NOSE DOWN (tab trailing edge up) direction until the NO TAKEOFF light goes out. (1) Make sure the inclinometers on the elevator trim tab show 9.0 degrees, +1.0 or -1.0 degree, trailing edge down. M. Remove the inclinometer from the trim tab and remove the clamp from the elevator. 9. Do a trim wheel adjustment. NOTE: If the trim pointer is not at the aft line of the takeoff range with the elevator trim tab at 8 degrees trailing edge down or not at the forward line of the takeoff range with the tab at 4 degrees trailing edge down, and/or the NO TAKEOFF warning is on when pointer is within the takeoff range, a trim wheel adjustment must be done. A. Remove the elevator trim wheel attach screws. B. Index the wheel in 90 degree increments as necessary to get the correct pointer position. C. Do fine adjustments with the elevator trim cable turnbuckle adjustments. (Refer to Chapter 27, Elevator and Tab System Control Cables-Maintenance Practices.) D. Tighten the elevator trim wheel attach screws and do the NO TAKEOFF warning check again. E. If the NO TAKEOFF light remains on after adjusting the trim wheel pointer, it may be necessary to adjust the proximity switch in the pedestal. F. (Airplanes -0001 thru -0161.) Do the steps that follow to adjust the proximity switch in the pedestal. (1) Put the elevator tab at 8 degrees trailing edge down. (2) Loosen the jam nut on the proximity switch. (3) Adjust gap between proximity switch and target on pointer until the NO TAKEOFF light goes off. Page 4 Revision 1 - January 21, 2015

(4) Tighten the jam nut. (5) Do the NO TAKEOFF warning check again. G. (Airplanes -0162 thru -0194.) Do the steps that follow to adjust the adjustment screw and proximity switch in the pedestal. (1) Puttheelevatortabat8degreetrailingedgedown. (2) Loosen the gap adjust screw a maximum of one full turn or until the LED goes OFF. (a) If the LED does not go OFF, adjust the proximity switch with instructions in Step 7.F. (3) Do the NO TAKEOFF warning check again. 10. Do an elevator trim tab travel check. (Refer to the Model 525B Maintenance Manual, Chapter 27, Elevator and Tab System Control Cables - Adjustment/Test, Elevator and Elevator Trim Tab Check.) 11. Remove external electrical power and connect the airplane battery. 12. Install the pilot's seat. (Refer to the Model 525B Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Flight Crew Seats - Maintenance Practices.) 13. Record that this service bulletin has been completed. A. Complete a Maintenance Transaction Report. B. Put a copy of the completed Maintenance Transaction Report in the airplane logbook. C.
