Prepare Cable. Check to be sure cable size fits within kit range as shown in Table (cover page).. Train cable into position and cut to length required for installation. Allow sufficient neutral wire length for neutral connection.. Bind neutral wires with a piece of wire or vinyl tape at dimension [A] + [B] Table. (See * below) 4. Bend the neutral wires over the binding wire or vinyl tape. 5. Remove cable semi-conductive insulation shield (semi-con) for a distance of [C] plus [B] Table. (See * below) 6. Remove cable insulation 4 from end of conductor for distance [B] Table. 5 7. Place a marker tape back from semi-con cut edge as shown. 6 Kit No. 568 568 568 5684 [A] * / 4 (98 mm) / 4 (98 mm) / 4 ( mm) / 4 ( mm) Dimension [B] Depth of Terminal Lug Barrel Table [C] * 8 / 4 (6 mm) 8 / 4 (6 mm) 9 (9 mm) 9 (9 mm) * add to [A] and [C] for short lug barrels ( or less). B. Install Lug or Connector. These units were designed to fit over Scotchlok and M copper and aluminum lugs. If other lugs will not fit through the core of the termination, slide termination on cable before installing lug. Do not remove core at this time.. When using M type lugs or connectors, refer to the tooling index (Pages 5 and 6) for crimping information.. Position lug or connector and crimp according to manufacturers directions. Remove excess contact aid and sharp crimp flash. C. Clean Cable Insulation and Lug Barrel Using Standard Practice. Wipe the cable insulation with an approved solvent. Do not allow solvent to touch semi-con insulation shield!. If abrasive must be used: a. Use on insulation only. Do not use abrasive on semi-con insulation shield! b. Use only aluminum oxide abrasive; grit 0 or finer or Scotch A Electrician s Abrasive Roll. c. Be careful not to reduce the cable insulation diameter below that allowed by the kit. D. Install Termination. Important: A track resistant seal must be made between the silicone termination insulator and connector using one of two gray Scotch 70 Silicone Rubber Electrical Tape Strips (contained in kit). If the lug barrel is smaller than the cable insulation, wrap the bottom end of the lug with gray silicone tape to the approximate diameter of the cable insulation.. Cover the edge of the semi-con insulation shield with a liberal coating of silicone grease. On this product the silicone grease does not serve as a lubricant. It must be used to fill the step at the semi-con cutoff. IMPORTANT Do Not Forget Silicone Grease ÁÁÁÁ Silicone Grease Gray Silicone Tape
Install Termination (continued). Slide the termination body onto the cable and remove core by unwinding, counter-clockwise, starting with the loose end. Make sure the termination body is butted up to the edge of the marker tape. 4 Tip: An occasional tug of the strand while unwinding will aid in core removal. Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä 4 Marker Tape ÁÁÁ Gray Silicone Tape 4. Complete the lug seal using the second gray silicone tape strip. Overlap insulator by one inch and extend tape wrapping onto lug barrel as shown. 5 ÁÁ ÁÁ ÁÁ 5 Gray Silicone Tape E. Grounding. Snap stainless steel grounding clip onto base of termination. Clip must be applied to the base of the termination, between the bottom two rings. Loop one neutral strand around ground clip ends, pulling clip tight onto the termination.. Bundle all neutral wires together and connect to ground. Ä Stainless Steel Grounding Clip 4
