At each cycle the blades must open and then close fully This is not a standard test method but it is accepted by Exova Warrington Certification as a test method which adequately demonstrates the operational ability of the damper units to perform the function for which they are designed. Product Description The MS-D smoke dampers are un-insulated multi-blade steel damper assemblies for use in smoke control systems at exposure temperatures up to 400 ⁰C. The damper units comprise blades made from 0.8mm thick steel with 12mm diameter steel blade shafts mounted in a steel frame of minimum 2mm thickness. The lateral seals are fabricated from steel of 0.4mm thickness. Steel grades may be galvanised mild steel or stainless steel. The blades are 168mm wide and a maximum of 989mm continuous length and the blade leading edges have silicone bulb gaskets 25mm in width clamped to the blade. For damper widths which require effective blade length greater than 989mm, the blades must be installed in two banks with a central stiffener as shown in Figure 1. The blades are operated by means of Bernard Controls electrical actuator units protected by thermal jackets of 50mm minimum thickness made of glass wool insulation with polyurethane coated VPU550 fabric skin. The damper units are fixed to the supporting construction by means of 3mm thick grade 316L stainless steel clamps 125mm long x 36mm deep bolted to the supporting wall/floor with all-steel anchor bolts on nominally 300mm centres. Figures 1 to 7 show the components and design of a typical damper unit along with the specified components. Scope of Approval The MS-D smoke dampers are approved for exposure to hot gas temperatures of up to 400⁰C for periods of up to 120 minutes and are capable of performing full opening/closing cycles at intervals of 30 minutes during this exposure to hot gas.
