COMPETT Electromobility+ Mid-term event Copenhagen 06.02.2014 Erik Figenbaum, project coordinator

Research goal How can e-vehicles come into use to a greater degree? Likely niches and types of vehicles that will be competitive Social acceptability and travel-behavior changes needed Barriers and benefits on the individual, regional and national level. How to overcome barriers and use benefits to promote e-vehicles Main actors and facilities that will be needed Economy of existing regulations and incentives How can research based knowledge stimulate marketing and policy making? Results will be of importance for both main orientations of the call, i.e. Strategic Research for Transport Policy and Technology Technology based Applied Research Innovation Second key dimension of the Electromobility system Usage patterns and the systems spatial and socio-economic operating conditions Page 2

Project status Web site: http://compett.org/ Published reports on website: WP1 Report: State of the Art Electric Propulsion. Vehicles and Energy Supply WP3 Report: Noise from electric vehicles - a Literature Survey WP2 Report: Attitudes, ownership and use of Electric Vehicles - a review of literature Most results are generated in second half of project period Page 4

Project status Travel survey in Denmark runs for a year Noise tests delayed until May Can not test in winter EV owner/general population surveys in Norway, 1755 EV owners, 1131 population (Car owner organisation) Stakeholder interviews February/March Travel survey analysis - ongoing EV owner/general population survey Austria ongoing Changed to new case study region Klagenfurt EV market modelling Prepared SERAPIS model, collected input and calibration data, next: calibrate for Norway Page 5

Preliminary results EV owner survey Norway Analysis of raw data, subject to change 1755 respondents representing 8 % of EVs in fleet 93% private owners, the other respondents rejected Majority of respondents are first time owners (81%): 47 % Nissan Leaf 18% Tesla Model S 19% Mitsubishi I-Miev, Peugeot Ion, Citroen C-zero 16% Others Average age 44, 76% male, 3,13 persons in household High income, high education Page 6

Preliminary results EV owner survey Norway Analysis of raw data, subject to change EVs model year 2011-2013 drive about 14000 km/year 75% use it daily, another 15% 3-5 days a week Prior to buying an EV the work trip (for those 78% that drive the vehicle to work everyday or 3-5 days/week) was done with: 11% used public transport 2% walked/cycled 80% with ordinary car 2,5% with another EV Increased car ownership? 28% bought EV as an addition to existing household vehicles 3% did not own a car before We do not know if they would have bought an extra car anyway Some households are all electric, some have more than one EV Page 7

Preliminary results EV owner survey Norway Analysis of raw data, subject to change Media was the dominant source of information leading to purchase, followed by friends and family 88% was determined to buy an EV prior to going to the dealer Brand loyalty was not important 82% thinks that the dealer gave correct information about the car 87% would buy an EV again 0,6% would not buy an EV again Page 8

Preliminary results EV owner survey Norway Analysis of raw data, subject to change 78% use the car to go to work everyday or 3-5 times per week. Of these: 69% (of the 78%) pass a toll road on the way to work (benefitting from the exemption from road tolls) 48% (of the 78%) can use a bus lane on the way to work, benefitting from bus lane access 40% of these say they save less than 10 minutes time/day 21% save 10-20 minutes 15% saves 20-30 minutes 16% saves more than 30 minutes Page 9
