You don t have to own a BMW or be a resident of New Hampshire to join us, but expect to be surrounded by people who own and enjoy BMW motorcycles! Have a happy and safe holiday, everyone! July 2018
Granite Beemer President s Desk Hmm. Is it really getting into July? Golly, gosh, how the time flies. Riding so far has been pretty good. Most of the roads I like to noodle around on seem to have come through last winter in relatively decent shape. Route 137 out of Jaffrey has some rough patches and it would be nice if the state would take care of those but on the whole it s OK. I am hoping to take a ride over to Hampton Beach this summer and I m going to try to come back home on back roads because that is an area I don t know very well. Perhaps I ll try to roll that in to make a weekend trip of it the weekend of our next destination ride. Speaking of which, our next Destination Ride for the season is on Saturday, July 21, 11:30 a.m. at Huots Seafood Restaurant, Camp Ellis Beach, 29 Eastern Ave., Saco, ME. Host is Harry Pendexter. Harry says it s YUM! What better endorsement can there be??? The date for our Annual Members Picnic is Sunday, August 5. It is being hosted by Jim and Bev Seipel in Walpole, NH (and for the umpteenth time I am SO! grateful for their volunteerism of being the hosts for this event! Makes my job easier.). The picnic will start at noon. This is a rain or shine event. The picnic is held every year as a way to say Thank You to the membership for their support of the club. The annual members picnic is a great time for the families of the club s riders to meet and get to know each other. So come to the picnic and bring the family. I enjoy going to this event every year because it s a really good time talking and catching up with everyone. (It also happens to be one of my favorite set of roads to ride on to get there.) Put the picnic on your calendar! If you plan to attend please let Jim and Bev know at seipeljb@myfairpoint.net or give them a call before 8:00 p.m. at 603-445- 5125. They need a head count so there is enough food for everyone. You are welcome to bring something for the table if you care to contribute to the eats and/or drinks (you should let Jim and Bev know this, too)..

The rally registration form can be found here on our website: http://gsbmwr.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2018-rally-registration_finalpage-size-for-website.pdf Keep the shiny side up! Louise 2018 GSBMWR Rally Countdown... The 2018 GSBMWR rally at Purity Springs Resort (in East Madison, NH) is only 74 days away! Make sure that you don t miss it! September 14-16! http://gsbmwr.org/purity-springs-rally/
It isn t that far off, in time or in distance! Maybe you might want to consider a weekend trip to the north central part of the Keystone State in a couple weeks. There are some nice roads heading out there, too! I have been thinking about heading out to attend this one even though the Bloomsburg, PA rally I attended in 2011 made the temperatures this week seem cool in comparison! If you are thinking of going, feel free to drop me a line and maybe we may enlist others, too!
Tales from the Roadside OK, we re now in July, and everyone should have renewed their club membership, and renewed their bike s state safety inspection sticker! July is a fun month with lots of rally and rides opportunities just don t forget to save the date for the club picnic in August, and send in your reservation for the club rally in September! When I rode one of my airheads into the local motorcycle shop for its annual inspection I encountered a tall young man with a pristine looking black and yellow 2003 R1150GS just having his inspection completed. We had a nice chat about BMW boxers, K bikes, and the element of trust with BMW riders and buying used bikes. I wanted to get his name and see if he was a current, or prospective new GSBMWR member but my turn came up and I had to run the drill with my bike, and he left soon after I turned to follow the technician. I think that it might be worth having a few club information business cards to hand out at times like this, to try to enlist new members. If everyone in the club got only a couple cards each to hand out each year, I d think that we could grow the membership by double digit percentages. As it turns out, Louise Bendix has such cards already made up, and she has informed me that if any members would like some cards to hand out, to simply contact her at the email address listed on the last page of the newsletter. I m going to ask for some and keep a couple in my wallet at all times for just these sorts of occasions. I d like to try something new a my first bike feature. Just send me a picture of your first motorcycle (doesn t have to be BMW) and a few sentences about it, what you were doing, or when you got it, etc. I will include all submissions in upcoming newsletters! I have been having trouble finding pics of my first street bike, a 1979 Yamaha XS400, so here is a pic of my 2nd, a 1982 Yamaha 650 Maxim that I bought almost new. This bike never let me down, and saw me through college, my first 3 jobs, and several girlfriends. After this bike, I was spoiled for shaft drive and pretty much only bought shaft drive bikes since then.
Granite Beemer Notes From Cyberspace The Triumph motorcycle ridden by TV icon Arthur Fonzerelli (actor Henry Winkler) just sold at auction for $179K! Built by Bud Ekins, too! https://metv.com/stories/whoa-fonzies-iconic-motorcycle-sells-for-179-000-atauction $179K is a bargain in comparison to the auction price the Harley- Davidson Fatboy ridden by the T-800 Terminator (actor Arnold Schwarzenegger) brought in a cool $480K! https://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/terminator-2-harley-auction/ BMW is developing a new adventure/ sport touring concept bike it looks cool, but I don t know if it would really work for me-those panniers don t look like typical BMW standard capacity!
