The November President s Message Hello everyone. Hope you are enjoying the fall foliage. The leaf battle is on and so far I am loosing, but I will catch up eventually. Please enjoy the rest of our good weather. Please welcome our newest members Ted who owns an 85 442 and Don and Jackie who own a Hurst Vista Cruiser tribute. Introduce yourself and welcome them into the club next time you see them. The Archway Club and the Illinois Valley Club are continuing work on the 2013 OCA National event. Our meeting back in September was very informative. Both clubs are busy progressing in their duties and will be ready very soon. Gerald has organized the tours and completed the cost for those tours. We have sent to IVOC for review and if accepted this will be ready for print. Don and Jerry are completing the separate bank account for the registrations and sponsorship funds for the 2013 event. Dan is waiting on the cost of the meals once the Crowne Plaza has locked in the cost to us which should happen soon. The event's committees are working hard to get completed before December. The 2013 OCA Nationals poster for the booklets and awards has recently been completed thanks to Larry. Thank you all for your support. Remember the Oldsmobile Club of America has a new web site. When you the get time, look at the new updated OCA web site. www.oldsmobileclub.org Gerry Davis has completed the club's roster update for 2013. If you wish for a newer club roster contact Gerry Davis or send a request to Darren Palmberger at ArchwayOldsClub@aol.com. Thank you Gerry, Doc and Ed for your time and talent. At our next meeting the members should discuss this years charities we should sponsor. Every year we donate to the Children's Cancer Society and The Oldsmobile Heritage Museum. Also this year I would like to include our local Bruce Kunz who supports Take a Kid to a Car Show program. Our club now promotes the Kids program at the Museum of Transportation every year this may be an expansion of what the club stands for already, getting the young involved with the old cars. We will discuss at the next meeting. Also at our next meeting we need to discuss nominations for club officers for the 2013 year. If you wish to become an officer or wish to nominate someone please attend our next meeting. Another year has passed. Our annual Christmas Brunch will be on Sunday December 9th at Grappa Grill same place as last year. Please plan to arrive after 10:45 AM we have reserved the room in the rear again. Please fill out the registration form in this newsletter and mail in for your reservations early. This is always a good club celebration please plan to attend. Thank you. Hope to see you soon Gene 2

Penetrating Oils Machinist s Workshop Mag recently published some information on various penetrating oils that I found very interesting. Some of you might appreciate this. The magazine reports they tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts. They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a scientifically rusted environment. *Penetrating oil... Average load* None... 516 pounds WD-40...... 238 pounds PB Blaster... 214 pounds Liquid Wrench... 127 pounds Kano Kroil... 106 pounds ATF*-Acetone mix...53 pounds The ATF-Acetone mix was a home brew mix of 50-50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note the home brew was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that Liquid Wrench is almost as good as Kroil for about 20% of the price. Steve from Godwin-Singer says that ATF-Acetone mix is the best and you can also use ATF- lacquer thinner 50-50 mix. *ATF=Automatic Transmission Fluid 2012 Holiday Brunch Info and Registration Form The 2012 Archway Olds Club Holiday Brunch will be held at Grappa Grill Restaurant on December 9 th.
