2 Pipe Lifting System VACUVIETZ is a particularly innovative system developed by VIETZ. VACUVIETZ is a pipe-lifting device which is completely independent of the carrier device used and which works according to the vacuum principle. It has been designed to increase efficiency and safety, especially for extremely demanding work on pipeline construction sites. Operating mode The vacuum pump produces a negative pressure of approximately 90 % in the vacuum tank. After the suction pad of the vacuum lifting unit has been set onto the pipe, the suction process can be activated by remote control. The pipe is sucked towards the suction pad with almost 1 kg/cm². Depending on the pipe diameter, the suction process takes only 1-2 seconds. A vacuum pressure gage constantly informs the operator about the negative pressure effective in the system and under the suction pad. Special Versions Versions suiting your specific requirements (e.g. higher lifting capacity) can be supplied on request. 3 Carriers VACUVIETZ can be installed on almost any carrier device. Whether we talk about laying, stacking or transporting pipes, loading and unloading vehicles, or working with a sideboom or in a pipe mill VACUVIETZ can be used for practically any application. Safety and efficiency VACUVIETZ is operated via remote control (wired or wireless). A hydraulic-powered rotator allows to use VACUVIETZ in combination with a crawler-type vehicle, by which very precise positioning is made possible. The operating principle of VACUVIETZ ensures extremely safe working conditions. Neither does a person need to be present directly in the area of working or directly beside or under the pipe, nor does a person have to climb on pipe stacks to fix hooks or chains. As a consequence, work accidents are practically impossible. The only person that needs to be present is the driver of the vehicle in operation, who can remain inside his cab. The suction pads can easily and quickly be exchanged within 10 minutes to work with other pipe diameters. VACUVIETZ is CE-certified and designed according to US ASME standards and the European VBG 9 standard. To provide maximum safety, VACUVIETZ is designed according to the strictest safety regulations. The maximum permissible lifting capacity has been calculated under consideration of a 100 per cent safety factor with relation to the actually possible lifting capacity. In case of too low negative pressure, which is very unlikely to occur, VACUVIETZ sends an optical and an acoustic signal to the operator. This alarm function ensures utmost operating safety even in case of motor or pump failure or in case of fuel shortage or power failure. Should one of these cases occur though, operating safety is ensured by the integrated check valves, VACUVIETZ compensates even extreme imbalance caused by non-centric load lifting, as demonstrated here during a safety presentation. which ensure that over 200 l of produced vacuum pressure is released to the suction pad. Due to this, the machine operator is given plenty of time to lower the load to the ground floor level. A substantial reduction of pipe handling times is achieved by the extremely fast suction process of only 1-2 seconds. Due to this, the capacity of production lines in pipe mills can be clearly increased, and loading and unloading of trucks, ships and other vehicles can be drastically accelerated, which automatically reduces many costs of various kinds.

4 Operator training To ensure correct use of VACUVIETZ, we offer a special training course for operators, supervising personnel, mechanics and electricians. The training includes operating instructions, safety checks before switching the machine on/off and initiating the suction and lifting process, and troubleshooting. Upon successful completion of the training, each trainee is presented with a certificate of competence. With this special training program VIETZ wants to ensure that safety standards during operation and maintenance of the machines are fully met. Furthermore, specially trained machine operators are the central element for economic use of VACUVIETZ. It is particularly suitable if longterm production planning or construction-site pipe deployment is possible, i.e. if the pipe diameter remains the same for a long period of time. Suction pad TWIN The suction pad TWIN is designed to handle double-jointed pipes of 24 meters length and longer. Using a double suction device for these long pipes, the stress exerted on the pipes is reduced and spread over a longer area. Suction pad VARIABLE The suction pad VARIABLE allows the use of one single suction pad for a multitude of different pipe diameters.
