Scania construction trucks: maximum uptime and operating economy Scania supplies premium trucks, buses and coaches renowned for their performance, operating economy and long service life, all of which contributes to a high resale value. With Scania s modular product system, vehicles can be tailored in configurations ranging from two up to five axles with GVWs ranging from 18 to 66 tonnes, all perfectly adapted to customer needs. In addition, the modular build facilitates servicing and parts supply in any situation. A wide range of engines offer a choice of Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5 and EEV, spanning outputs from 230 to 730 hp and 1,250 to 3,500 Nm. Range-change and range-splitter gearboxes with or without crawler gears and automated gearchanging, as well as a wide variety of single-reduction and hub-reduction axles, enable the powertrain to be adapted to individual performance and mobility requirements. Competitive chassis weights are combined with robust design, which means that more cargo can be carried on a Scania construction vehicle without compromising durability. This is also the case for Euro 4, Euro 5 and EEV vehicles with emission control equipment. Technically permissible weights often exceed plated weights, offering a useful margin that boosts service life. For the needs of the construction market, Scania s dedicated approach to serving its customers really comes into its own. The modular product range encompassing trucks, buses and coaches, as well as engines for industrial and marine use and power generation ensures easy servicing, convenient parts supply and quick staff training. The services, including round-the-clock assistance, are provided by the Scania sales and service network and by mobile workshops. On-site servicing can be set up in a matter of weeks by means of container-based workshop modules that are adaptable to the requirements of each customer s operation. 3 3 (6) Scania industrial engines: a leading global supplier of premium power units Scania develops, manufactures and delivers engines to industrial OEMs over the whole world, e.g. for dumpers, material handling and other heavy equipment, as well as engines for marine use and for power generation. Scania is affirming its leading position with a broad new range of industrial engines that covers emission requirements from Stage II/Tier 2 to the forthcoming Stage IIIB and Tier 4i that will apply in the EU and US respectively from 2011 and they are already prepared for the next step in 2014 Stage IV and Tier 4 (final). The technology chosen by Scania for Stage IIIB and Tier 4 has generated several major new business deals. Scania will supply engines adapted for various types of construction equipment e.g. to Terex Corporation, based in the USA, and to Doosan, based in Korea. Both these companies operate worldwide and Scania has now rapidly expanded its service network to include around 100 new service points in North America. Scania engines provide an outstanding blend of performance and operating economy. Scania's meticulous application engineering involves tailoring each engine ex-factory to meet individual customer needs. Modular design means that fewer components are needed to build a comprehensive range of engines. This facilitates servicing, parts supply and network training, as well as the setting up of new facilities. All of Scania's research and development takes place at the Scania Technical Centre in Södertälje, Sweden, covering all products and business areas. s are developed in parallel for trucks, buses and other applications, which means that the latest technologies can be applied wherever needed. Between 80,000 and 100,000 engines are built every year, making Scania one of the most experienced engine manufacturers in the world. Carefully chosen materials and processes ensure high quality and that the consumption of energy and raw materials will be lower. This leads to lower environmental impact throughout the life cycle of the engine. To reach the latest emission levels for industrial engines, Scania has chosen a compact setup with Scania XPI (extra high pressure injection) common-rail fuel injection and SCR aftertreatment (selective catalytic reduction). No particulate filter is needed. With no or only minor changes, the same installation can be used for the next step in emission legislation in 2014, Stage IV and Tier 4 final. Scania also has long-standing experience of renewable and alternative technology. Gas-powered engines have been supplied since the early 1980s and diesel engines adapted to run on bioethanol since the late 1980s. Scania engines can run on up to 100% biodiesel (according to the FAME standard).
