4 Preface Preface Target group for this operating manual This operating manual is aimed at those concerned with the control, use and maintenance of the machine. It contains all the data required for safe handling, use and maintenance of the plough. For your safety Before starting to adjust and use your plough, familiarise yourself with this operating manual. Doing so will ensure your safety and optimal working conditions. It is very important to read this manual carefully before using the plough and to keep it handy. In this way, you will Avoid accidents Respect the warranty conditions Always have a functional plough in perfect working order. For the employer Every employee must be given training at regular intervals on how to use this plough (at least once a year) in accordance with the guidelines issued by the employer's insurance company. Untrained or unauthorised individuals are not permitted to use the plough. You are personally responsible for the safe use and maintenance of the plough. You must ensure that you and anyone else who is going to operate, maintain or work around the plough is familiar with the operating and maintenance procedures and related safety information contained in this manual. 5 Safety Safety This chapter contains general safety instructions for this product. Each chapter of the operating manual contains additional specific safety information. Safety decals For your safety, safety decals are placed on important parts of the plough. Please do not remove them. If they become illegible or begin to peel off, replace them with new decals (see the spare parts catalogue). Placement 5

6 Safety Meaning The meaning of the safety decals is explained below. Read the operating manual and follow the instructions The plough must only be used for the first time once the operating manual has been read and understood. Do not stand between the tractor and the plough Standing between the tractor and plough increases the risk of being crushed. This is particularly relevant when coupling the plough to the tractor. Parking stand Do not stand under or near the plough unless it is properly secured. When uncoupling, use the parking stand. If the plough tips over, it can damage the plough, or cause personal injury or material damage. Risk of crushing Using the machine can reduce the surrounding space. Be aware there is a risk of crushing. Keep clear of the danger area. Retighten bolts and nuts Regularly retighten all bolts and nuts on the plough. This is especially important after the first few hours of use. Unnoticed loosening of bolts and nuts may lead to damage or injury. 6

7 Safety General safety information General Please read and ensure you understand the following general safety information. Specific safety information is pointed out in the relevant chapters. Read and ensure you understand the instructions Before starting to operate the plough, read the operating manual and follow the instructions. Failure to follow the instructions may damage the plough or lead to injury. Qualified personnel only The plough must not be put into use until the user has been properly trained and is familiar with the operation and safe use of the plough. Incorrect use of the plough may damage the plough or lead to injury. Check for technical defects Before starting to use the plough, check that the machine is in perfect working condition. If there are any defective components, contact your dealer to have them replaced. Defective components may cause malfunctions, and damage the plough or lead to injury. Keep your distance Do not stand on, under or near the plough when it is operating or being coupled to the tractor. This may result in damage or injury. Support the plough Do not stand under or near the plough unless it is properly supported. If the plough tips, it may damage the plough or lead to injury. Lower the plough Always lower the plough when parking the tractor. Otherwise, the plough may lower itself and damage the plough or lead to injury. Use the front weights Fit the tractor with enough front weights to ensure stability and secure steering. Check the vicinity Always check the immediate vicinity before starting to move or operate the plough. No persons must stand close to the plough when it is being operated. Use the parking stand Use the parking stand when parking the plough. If the plough is not correctly supported, it may tip over. This may damage the plough or lead to injury. No riding on the plough Do not allow anyone to ride on the plough when in use. This may result in damage or injury. 7

8 Safety Coupling Risk of injury when coupling There is an increased risk of injury when the plough is coupled to the tractor. Therefore: Secure the tractor to prevent it from rolling. Do not stand between the tractor and plough when coupling Lift and lower the plough slowly Relieving the oil pressure - Unintended movements Relieve the oil pressure in both the tractor's hydraulic system and the plough's hydraulic system before connecting and disconnecting the hydraulic hoses. Otherwise, pressurised oil may cause the plough to move unexpectedly. This may damage the plough or lead to injury. Check the length of the hose Check the length of the hose on the plough and between the plough and tractor for sufficient slack. If the hoses are taut or stretched, the hoses may be damaged or destroyed. Ensure the hydraulic connections are correctly connected. Make sure you do not cross hydraulic connections when coupling them to the tractor. If the connections are crossed, it will cause the plough to move unexpectedly. This may damage the plough or lead to injury. Adjusting and maintaining Avoid skin contact with oils and lubricants When handling oils or lubricants, prevent them coming into contact with the skin by using oil resistant gloves. Oils and lubricants can damage the skin. Relieve the oil pressure - jet streams Before replacing or otherwise working with parts of the hydraulic system, relieve the oil pressure in the system. The oil pressure can be very high. Jet streams caused by high oil pressure may lead to injury. In case of injury, seek medical attention immediately. Carry out maintenance at regular intervals Carry out maintenance on the plough at regular intervals and as prescribed in»maintenance and care«. Also replace worn parts as prescribed. Ploughs that are not well maintained can malfunction. This may damage the plough or lead to injury. Do not weld Never carry out welding work on any part of the plough. The plough is made of hardened steel, and any welding will adversely affect the plough s strength. Welding may irreparably damage the plough. Retighten bolts and nuts Regularly retighten all bolts and nuts on the plough. This is especially important after the first few hours of use. 9 Safety Replace the drag axle after 1000 km On large mounted ploughs we recommend that you replace the drag axle after 1000 km of road transport. Road transport causes imperceptible damage to the drag axle. Use protective clothing Use protective clothing, e.g. gloves, when working with sharp parts of the plough. Parts that come into contact with the soil can be very sharp. Failure to handle these carefully may lead to injury. Use original spare parts Use only genuine Kverneland spare parts. Other products may adversely affect the correct operation of the plough and safety. The warranty will no longer be valid if parts not produced by Kverneland are used. Check the tyre pressure Regularly check to ensure the tyre pressure meets the requirements. Pressures which are too high or low may cause damage and excessive wear of the tyre.»tyre pressure«, page 14. Driving on the road Hydraulics During road transport, the taps for the hydraulic control system must be locked. Be aware of the plough s length The plough is long, and swings out when turning. In tight turns, avoid swinging the rear of the plough into obstacles. Stabilise the drawbars During all non-ploughing operations, e.g. transport, the tractor's drawbars must be secured. This will prevent the plough from accidentally moving sideways. Obey local rules Obey the local rules when driving with the plough on public roads. For example have all necessary lights installed and warning signs displayed. do not exceed the maximum permitted weights, loads and dimensions. The user is responsible for ensuring that the plough complies with the law when driving on public roads. Adapt your speed: max 25 km/h Your driving speed must be adapted to the road conditions under all circumstances, but must never exceed 25 km/h. Excessively high speeds cause excessive forces on the tractor, plough and transport wheel. This may lead to breakage or other damage. 9

10 Getting to know the plough Getting to know the plough This chapter provides information on the plough. You can learn about correct use of the plough and its features as well as technical information. Proper use Features This plough is intended to be used for ploughing. Any other use of the plough, e.g. as for lifting or pulling operations, is deemed improper use. The manufacturer and dealer are not liable for damage caused by improper use. Auto-reset beam The AB plough is equipped with Kverneland s automatic stone release system. The single spring leaf system releases the plough bodies over stones and other solid objects in the ground smoothly and efficiently. This means that sudden jolts and possible damage are avoided. Once the plough has passed the obstacle, the body automatically reverts to the correct plough depth. Variable working width The parallel construction on this plough allows you to continuously vary the working width using the hydraulics. This ensures an optimum combination of tractor, plough and soil consistency. Complete range of bodies A complete range of plough bodies is available for all requirements. Kverneland plough bodies offer excellent ploughing quality, are wear resistant and have a low draft requirement. Complete range of optional equipment Optional equipment on the plough consists of a wide range of depth wheels, skimming equipment, disc coulters and knives. These will meet your requirements in terms of soil type and field conditions. Wearing parts All soil engaging parts have undergone a process of heat treatment. This makes them extremely wear resistant, yet flexible enough to withstand shocks. 10

16 Optional equipment Optional equipment This section gives an overview of the optional equipment for the AB/ AD plough. Limitations apply. Please contact your Kverneland dealer for more information Skimmer Recommended for effective ploughing down of grass and stubble. Two types of skimmer are available: manure skimmers and maize skimmers. Both can be equipped with either a long share for more effective burial of plant waste or a short share for working deeper with the skimmer. Available with skimmer extensions. Trashboard Particularly useful when large quantities of plant waste (manure, straw, etc.) are present. Using a trashboard gives more free space between the bodies, compared to using a skimmer. Disc coulter Disc coulters are available in sizes of 45 and 50 cm (18 and 20 inches) in diameter, plain or notched. They are mounted on single arms and are easy to adjust to suit all conditions. Share knife An alternative to disc coulters, when a reduction in weight may be necessary or when blockage from trash or stones is likely. Can only be used on ploughs fitted with reversible points. 16

17 Optional equipment Landside knife Can be used together with all types of shares. An alternative to disc coulters, when a reduction in weight may be necessary or when blockage from trash or stones is likely. Good in combination with skimmers, and suitable for use with all types of shares. Eco-share A share for working 10cm deeper than the plough's normal share and breaking up the topsoil. This cannot be fitted to all bodies. Also an alternative for ploughing up to 10 cm shallower. Share with reversible point An effective share system for ploughing hard and abrasive soil and for use under generally difficult conditions. Share with flush fit point For ploughing in sticky soil conditions. The point is fixed by means of a single bolt and is therefore easy to replace. 17

18 Optional equipment Quick-fit share Reduces the downtime when replacing the points. Can be fitted to all plough bodies. Very good ground penetration. Furrow splitter Designed for mounting to any part of the mouldboard, to cut through firm soil, making subsequent operations easier. The splitter is secured with a screw in the existing hole in the mouldboard. Mouldboard extension Mouldboard extensions can be fitted for better packing of the heaps in firm soil and uphill. Furrow opener For use on the rear body to increase the width of the furrow bottom, in order to accept tractors with wider tyres. 18

19 Optional equipment Wear plate Can be fitted on the landsides, to reduce wearing of the landsides. Fitted to the rear end of the landside as a usable wearing part. Depth wheel It is highly recommended that a depth wheel is used on all ploughs. A wide range of depth wheels is available for the plough. Steel or rubber depth wheel A robust steel or rubber depth wheel. 19

20 Preparing for operation Preparing for operation This chapter will guide you through the preparations that must be made on the plough and tractor before you start operating the plough. Tractor Hydraulic connections The following chart shows the connections required on the tractor. The exact settings are determined by the soil and field conditions. The distance between the front wheels must be 0 to 10 cm wider cm Tip! Take the wheel distance into account when ordering the plough so that the slide can be fitted correctly. 20

21 Preparing for operation Front weights Remove paint > Add sufficient front end weights to ensure safe driving. > Remove paint from all surfaces in contact with the ground. Use a scraper and paint remover. Tower A The tower (A, fig.1) must always be fitted vertically, as viewed from the front. Use the turnbuckle (B) to ensure the correct setting. It is best to use the turnbuckle (B) when extending the tractor's centre line. This ensures the least possible fluctuation of the ploughing depth of the rear body when the furrow width is being regulated B During ploughing, it is best to use the top linkage for extending the tractor's centre line correctly behind the tower on the plough. This means that distance D (1) is always a little smaller than D (2) because the tractor is aslant with the right wheel in the furrow. This can be adjusted in 3 different ways: 90º Swap over the top linkage ball and spacer (C, fig. 2). NB! Bolt F in triangle G must always be directly above the ball in the top linkage to ensure there is no unnecessary tension in the tower. This is particularly important on large ploughs. This means it is important to rotate triangle fitting G. 22 Preparing for operation Automatic beam with stone release system. F The illustration shows the composition of the HD spring. In heavy soil, two of spring leaf no. 5 can be added. Our standard spring does not contain spring leaf no. 5 In light soil, it is recommended to remove one spring leaf no. 1 from the standard spring. 4 E=70 cm B D Bolt (D) must be undone before the spring is adjusted with screw (B). The spring must be adjusted (B) so that distance E=70 cm. This measurement is marked on the long key If the depth of the plough bodies is not in a straight line when one passes underneath, this can be adjusted slightly using the eccentric between the beam and the bolt (F). Before adjustment, the spring pressure must be released and bolt (F) undone so that the eccentric casing can be turned with the key to a new position. F 22

23 Coupling Coupling This chapter explains how to couple the plough to the tractor. Safety Risk of injury when coupling There is an increased risk of injury when the plough is coupled to the tractor. Therefore: Secure the tractor to prevent it from rolling. Apply the handbrake. Do not stand between the tractor and plough when coupling Lift and lower the plough slowly Check the length of the hose Check the length of the hose between the plough and tractor for sufficient slack. If the hoses are taut or stretched, the hoses may be damaged or pulled out. Coupling To couple the plough to the tractor Connect the draw arms of the tractor to the drag axle on the plough Connect the hydraulic hoses to the tractor. Carefully lift the plough. Fold up the parking stand Check the linkage geometry (see below) TIP! Top linkage coupling Use the slotted holes on 4-share ploughs or larger. This allows the plough to follow the field contours Use the fixed holes on 2 and 3-share ploughs. This prevents the plough from tilting up in heavy or stony soils. Make sure the top linkage inclines slightly towards the tractor from the plough. 23

24 Coupling Connection geometry For a stable first furrow width, the imaginary intersection of the draw arms should be 1/3 of the axle distance behind the front axle. If this is not the case, replace the drag axle with another length.»«page 13 Ensure the correct length is used for the drag axle to obtain the correct coupling geometry. Irrespective of the wheel distance on the tractor, the first furrow regulation can be adjusted without affecting the drag direction between the tractor and the plough. The first furrow is regulated manually using a turnbuckle. The turnbuckle is adjusted so that the first furrow is like the remaining furrows. Incorrect Correct 24

25 Transport Transport This chapter explains how to drive safely on roads. Safety Stabilise the drawbars During transport, stabilise the tractor's drawbars. This will prevent the plough from accidentally moving sideways. Adapt your speed: max 25 km/h Your driving speed must be adapted to the road and field conditions under all circumstances, but must never exceed 25 km/h. Excessively high speeds cause excessive stresses on both tractor and plough, and may cause irreparable damage. Be aware of the plough s length The plough is long, and can swing out when turning. In tight turns, avoid swinging the rear of the plough into obstacles. 25

NB! Remember to push the parking stand up before ploughing, and set it down again when parking the plough. Never transport the plough with the parking stand lowered. 26

27 Adjusting the plough Adjusting the plough This chapter describes the plough adjustments required to obtain the desired ploughing result. Adjustments can be carried out before and during ploughing. Recommended working order We recommend you to use the following working order when adjusting the plough in the field Working depth with depth wheel and depth control Disc coulter, skimmer and trashboard Levelling of the tractor's drawbars Working width First furrow width If one function is adjusted, this will affect the others. Therefore, this adjustment must be carried out several times. Safety Use protective clothing Use protective clothing, e.g. gloves, when working with sharp parts of the plough. Parts that come into contact with the soil can be very sharp. Failure to handle these carefully may lead to injury. Working width Adjust the working-width cylinder using the tractor s hydraulic outlet TIP! The scale indicates the working width per body, in inches and centimetres 27

28 Adjusting the plough First furrow width Do not adjust in the raised position Do not adjust the first furrow width when the plough is raised above the ground. This may result in damage or injury. In general, the first furrow should be the same width as the other furrows. Please be aware of the following: When using wide tyres on the tractor, decrease the first furrow width to ensure a good connection with the previous furrows. On slopes, compensate for the plough s downwards drift. When using a furrow opener on the last body, make the first furrow width 13 cm smaller than the width of the other furrows. Incorrect adjustment Correct adjustment Mechanical Adjust the first furrow width using the turnbuckle, as shown. Hydraulic Adjust the first furrow cylinder using the tractor s hydraulic outlet. 28

29 Adjusting the plough Working depth The plough frame should always be parallel to the ground. The top linkage should be in the centre of the slot. After changing the working depth, check the levelling of the drawbars (see next paragraph) Incorrect adjustment Correct adjustment To change the ploughing depth Lift the plough carefully Adjust using the adjustment nuts Adjust the lower draw arms with the tractors three-point control Adjust the length of the tractor's drawbars to level the plough Seen from the rear, the plough beams should be at 90º to the ground. 30 Adjusting the plough Set-up A B C The figures above show a simplified set-up (simple crown) which requires minimal adjustment. With the plough set for normal ploughing, the crown is driven without any setting other than the variation of the depth (hydraulic pack and depth wheel). First pass (A): Only the three plough bodies are ploughing. The rear body ploughs at approx. 1/2 depth. Second pass (B): Driven in the opposite direction, with the tractor's left-hand wheel in the empty furrow. The front plough body is at approx. half depth and the rear is at full depth. Third pass (C): The tractor's right-hand wheel is driven in the first furrow from the second pass. The front plough body is at approx. half depth so that the crown is sufficiently high. 30

31 Adjusting the plough Finishing A B Time must be taken when ploughing the final furrow to ensure that the strip of field which remains is of an equal width. Figure A and B show finishing with a 5-share plough. Finishing starts when the remaining furrow width is twice the number of shares minus 1 (9 furrows for 5 shares - 11 furrows for 6 shares, etc.). The front section is ploughed at half-depth. This half furrow is ploughed with the last body on the last pass. 31

32 Adjusting the plough Disc coulter [+] Setting the disc coulter: 1/3 D D > 5 cm The disc coulter must cut almost 1/3 of the disc coulter's diameter. The distance between the disc coulter and the body must be at least 5 cm. In stony soils, increase this distance. All disc coulters must have the same settings The distance between the disc coulter and the landside must be between 1 and 4 cm. TIP! 33 Adjusting the plough Skimmer [+] The skimmers are correctly adjusted when The skimmers have a working depth of approximately 3 to 5 cm. All skimmers are adjusted equally. To adjust the depth Loosen the nuts on bolt A Loosen bolt A. 34 Adjusting the plough Trashboard [+] B The trashboard should be placed with the front edge close to the mouldboard, the rear edge should be adjusted according to the ploughing depth. A There are two adjusting holes in the bracket for the trashboard, one for deep ploughing and one for shallower ploughing (A). In addition, there are two grooves in the bracket for fine adjustment (B). TIP! When commissioning the new plough, it is a good idea to adjust the trashboard in the upper position to strip the paint from the plough bodies when ploughing. TIP! It may be a good idea to adjust the height of the trashboard when changing the working width. The trashboard is set from the front. It is important that the trashboard is fitted with the front edge completely lowered against the mouldboard to prevent plant waste or similar from becoming caught up. 34

35 Adjusting the plough To make a further adjustment when out in the field, on level ground, drive the tractor's left front and rear wheels onto a block corresponding to the depth you wish to plough and then lower the plough to the ground. Ensure that the plough and the tractor's drawbars are the same distance from the rear wheels. Seen from the rear, the angle of the plough against the ground must be 90º, which is achieved by adjusting the length of the right lift arm. Seen from the side, the plough beams and the frame must be parallel to the ground, which is achieved by adjusting the length of the top linkage. The lower rear edge of the last landside must be clear of the ground by approx.10 mm. The height of the top linkage on the plough's tower must be selected so that the top linkage is slightly forward against the tractor's attachment point. A The hole in the tower (A) is often used when ploughing with 4 or 5- share ploughs to ensure an equal depth on the plough forward and back when ploughing on hilly ground. To prevent the rear end of the plough from tipping up on stony ground, the hole in the tower must be used; this is more important the smaller the plough is. A narrow top linkage angle gives unstable depth for uneven ground resistance. A wide angle = stable depth. The distance from the inside right rear wheel to the disc coulter or share knife on the first plough body is adjusted using the turnbuckle ( B), which is parallel to the drag axle, until the same ploughing width is set for the rest of the plough. 36 Adjusting the plough A The tractor's top linkage must now be fitted sideways in the tower on the plough. Read page 21, section on Tower and moving the top linkage to ensure it is parallel with the edge of the furrow, i.e. via the tractor's extended centre line correctly behind the tower. (If the tractor's top linkage is not symmetrical, the side increase can be adjusted by regulating with the turnbuckle (A) until this is achieved. AD model) If the tractor has resistance regulated hydraulics with the impulse generator in the top linkage fitting, the hole in the tower must be used for the plough to have automatic depth control. Most new tractors have an impulse generator in the top linkage fitting on the tractor and the hole in the tower can be used for the plough to have automatic depth control. If you drive out into the field and start ploughing, these adjustments must be carried out one by one anyway until the plough and tractor drive as required. 36

38 Maintenance and care Maintenance and care This chapter explains how to maintain and care for the plough. Safety Use original spare parts Use only genuine Kverneland spare parts. Other products may adversely affect the correct operation of the plough and safety. The warranty will no longer be valid if parts not produced by Kverneland are used. Use protective clothing Use protective clothing, e.g. gloves, when working with sharp parts of the plough. Parts that come into contact with the soil can be very sharp. Failure to handle these carefully may lead to injury. Avoid skin contact with oils and lubricants When handling oils or lubricants, prevent them coming into contact with the skin by using oil resistant gloves. Oils and lubricants can damage the skin. Prior to maintenance Prior to maintenance of the plough Ensure that the plough is correctly secured to prevent overturning. Use additional safety devices when required. Relieve the pressure in the hydraulic system Clean the plough around the maintenance area 38

Lubricate the plough Daily when ploughing. This prevents the ingress of water and dirt into the bearings and moving parts. After power cleaning Before and after the ploughing season. Lubricate all lubrication points until grease comes out of the bearing. Remove all excess grease. Excess grease attracts dust and earth. 40

45 Maintenance and care Align bodies New ploughs are delivered with correctly adjusted bodies. Use of the plough can gradually alter the alignment. Therefore the alignment of the bodies must be checked after every ploughing season The bodies are correctly aligned when A2 = A1 B2 = B1 A2 = B2 The maximum permitted deviation between A1 and A2 is 5 mm. When there is greater deviation, adjust the bodies with the nuts on the supports. Start with the middle bodies. Loosen the counter nut Adjust the nut until the body is in the desired position Tighten all nuts, including the counter nut Continue with the other subsequent bodies. Also make sure that left and right hand bodies are parallel. From above, take a quick look at the left and right hand supports, to check that they are parallel Adjust when necessary. 45

Metal All metal components can be sent for ferrous metal recycling. Tyres Tyres can be sent to tyre recycling facilities. Oil Store fluid from the hydraulic system in suitable containers for disposal at a used oil facility. Plastic Plastic parts can be disposed of with normal domestic waste, if specific national regulations permit. 51
