2 Presidents Message In the Feb Panorama, There is a car advertised in The Mart that caught my attention, and brings up some distant memories of cars that slipped through my fingers when I worked in the car business. Namely, a apt title to this article would be; If I had known then what I know today. Here are several cars that I could have purchased while as a nearly broke college student at MSU, while working part time at the local dealer. Please keep in mind that the Used Car Mgr. was a Detroit iron man, and didn t care much for imported cars. A Conv D, good compression, one very small rust spot on upper rear quarter panel SELLING PRICE $ (The ad in Pano is for a restored model for $ Remember that I am going back to the years How about a really pristine, complete coupe, silver w/ full red leather, chrome wheels, miles, for $ The owners daughter talked daddy into keeping the car since she was starting drivers ed. Try a Targa, red, 4 speed, rust free, chrome wheels, the car had sat on the used car lot so long that the tires were flat (new semperit tires) for $ How about a European coupe w/30000 on a factory rebuilt engine, fresh major service, for $ ? In today s economy, there are plenty of deals to be found, if you dig deep enough, and sift thru the junk. But I could not help turning back the clock a bit. My Boxster is back from a full major service, new engine oil separator, exterior detail, and I saved over $ using the service special to PCA members at the Okemos Auto Collection. Now the trick is not to drive the car prior to the Parade Concours at Keystone in late June. Pray for a early Spring. Charlie Hagen

5 How Can I Organize An Event? So you want to set up your own special event? You know what you want to do but you don t know where to start? If you know what you d like to do you covered most of it already! Well here s a simple guide to setting up that event to make for an enjoyable day. What would you like to do? When would you like to go? Contact ANY of the Board members with the above information so we can get the proper paperwork completed and to advertise your event. You can us, call us, mail this guide in, or even come to one of the board meetings. As the board does their stuff you can start mapping out your route. There are many ways to do this. Mapquest, Navigation, GPS, County Maps, etc. Bring copies of the maps to hand out. It s ok if everyone doesn t get one but space them out through the group accordingly. Just a side note, if at all possible you should considering driving the route before the scheduled event to make sure there are no detours, flooded roads, road hazards, construction, gravel roads, etc. If not, that s ok too, but be prepared to make on the fly adjustments by having maps, nav, gps, something in the car so the group isn t just lost. When the event day is here. All you have to do is have everyone sign the waiver and hand out maps. The board will make sure you have the waivers before hand. Lastly, remember this is YOUR event. Enjoy it! You will be the lead car so you will set the pace. Drive where you re comfortable but not so anyone can keep up. Some drivers are spirited while others want to just cruise and take in the scenery. That s ok too. Just try not to lose your group because we all share the same passion. Unless of course it s a rally then everyone s on their own.
