6 1. Introduction This Appendix A to Book 1 of the Ontario Traffic Manual provides an illustrated index of all signs and sign types which have a standard sign number, and an illustrated index of standard traffic signal displays. Beside each sign illustration are shown the sign name, the sign number(s), the various sizes available for that sign, and the Books and section numbers of the Ontario Traffic Manual which cover usage of each sign. The signs are listed by Book, and the order of signs illustrated in this Appendix is the same order, the functional order, as that followed in each of Books 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. (As is the case in each of these Books, the sign numbers will therefore not follow strict numerical sequencing.) These five Books contain the primary description of each sign; together with this Introduction and Book 12, this provides seven sections to Appendix A. Eventually, once one complete cycle of revision of the OTM has taken place, all sections of this Appendix will be bound together. Until then, they are presented in loose-leaf format. Sign sizes shown in the OTM, including this Appendix, are small dimension by large dimension and are given in centimetres (cm). 3
