1 TRAFFIC INFRACTIONS AND OTHER ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS MUNICIPAL COURT FINE SCHEDULE Effective The Judges of the Municipal Court of Kansas City, Kansas have set the following fines for the following traffic infractions and ordinance violations. The Clerk of the Municipal Court and designated assistants are authorized to accept from the alleged violator by mail or in person his or her voluntary appearance, a plea of guilty or no contest, and the amount of fine shown for the infraction or violation. (K.S.A ) Ordinance violations and traffic infractions not listed on this Fine Schedule require a court appearance. Fines listed on this Fine Schedule shall be doubled if the violation occurred within any road construction zone. (Section 35-51(b), Code of Ordinances) Fines listed on this Fine Schedule relating to exceeding the maximum speed limit shall be doubled if the violation occurred in a posted school zone. (Section 35-51(c), Code of Ordinances) * = Moving Violation The following fines are effective for incidents occurring May , or later. The fine amounts do NOT include court costs. The State of Kansas mandates that court costs of $20.50 be assessed on all tickets issued, except for no seat belt and parking tickets. Unified Government ordinance provides that court costs shall be assessed if a case is placed on the court trial docket. Except for parking violations, if an accused person enters a plea of guilty or no contest to an offense listed on this Fine Schedule and pays the fine without a court appearance, no court costs, other than those mandated by the State, shall be assessed. If a case is continued past the original docket date listed on the ticket, a one-time fee of $30 will be assessed. If a defendant misses a scheduled court date, or payment deadline, City Ordinance dictates a late fee of $50 for each ticket for each date the defendant misses.(city Ordinance23-13(a)(4)) For any ticket on which there is no activity for 90 days or more, the ticket may be referred to a collection agency, which is authorized to add 33% to the amount to be collected. (See K.S.A ) Where a person is charged with a violation of a parking ordinance, if the violation remains unpaid 10 days after the violation, a $5.00 court cost is assessed, and an additional $5.00 court cost (a total of $10) is assessed for each violation which remains unpaid 30 days after the date of the violation. (Section 23-10, Code of Ordinances)
