Introduction 1.1 Introduction from the Clerk of the Course On behalf of Galway Motor Club it gives me great pleasure to present our Rally Guide containing plenty of advance information about the 2013 Safety Direct Galway International Rally. I extend to you a Cead Mile Failte to Galway for the rallying, the hospitality and the craic, for this, the 43rd year of International rallying in Galway. I m delighted to confirm that Safety Direct, a Galway based company, and one of the biggest supporters of Irish rallying, is continuing it s sponsorship of our event for the sixth time. The big news for 2013 is that the event will again run in the successful, cost friendly format that was enjoyed by a capacity entry in All of the stages will be contained in a rolling loop format on Sunday 3 rd February. There will be additional stage mileage and an additional service break this year to provide additional challenge and enjoyment for competitors and spectators alike. The other big news is that the entry fee will be 545 the most cost effective International Rally in Ireland or the UK! The event will benefit from extensive TV coverage on National and International TV channels. For 2103 the organisers are delighted to be associated with the Gathering Ireland tourism initiative, in fact we will be the first International Motorsport event to do so. In the spirit of this initiative, Galway Motor Club extends an open invitation to all Irish rally competitors living or rallying abroad to enter the 2013 rally and support the gathering - rally style! I m also delighted that competitors in the 2013 Safety Direct Galway International Rally will benefit from 50% bonus points towards the 2013 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. 3 Preliminary Event Information: Please check for further updates. Route : The competitive element of the event will be run over 9 competitive special stages on Sunday 3 rd February There will be a Ceremonial Start in Galway City Centre on Saturday 2 nd February. There are three stages to recce and there will not be any night stages. A provisional schedule and outline route details are included in this Rally Guide. Historic Rally: The Safety Direct Galway Historic Rally will cover the full route of the International Rally. Junior Rally: Junior Rally competitors will compete over 6 stages of the International Rally at a reduced Entry Fee of 345. Irish Tarmac Rally Championship: The event will be Round 1 of the 2013 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and 50% Bonus Points are on offer. The event is also Round 2 of the 2013 Irish Historic Rally Championship. 1.2 This document has no regulatory power and is for information purposes only. 6 International Classes - All Classes are pending ratification by Motorsport Ireland 5.0 VEHICLE CATEGORIES AND CLASSES (Please note that Classes 1-6 require an International Licence) The Championship will be divided into the following FIA Homologated classes: CLASS 1 CLASS 2 CLASS 3 CLASS4 CLASS 5 CLASS 6 Group N two wheel drive cars up to and including 2000cc including cars homologated in the FIA R1 categories Group A two wheel cars up to and including 1600cc including cars homologated in the FIA R2B category Group A two wheel drive cars over 1600cc and up to and including 2000cc including cars homologated in the FIA R2C, R3C, R3T and R3D categories and Super 1600 homologated cars All homologated four wheel drive Group N cars, including Super 2000 cars All vehicles homologated by the FIA in Group RGT Group A over 2000cc including World Rally Cars The event will incorporate a Challenge for all Honda Civic EK4 &EG6 Cars National Classes - All Classes are pending ratification by Motorsport Ireland (Please note that Classes 9-16 require a National Licence) Class 9 Modified cars up to and including 1450cc, 2WD normally aspirated. (HTP).
