1 Technical Service Bulletin SUBJECT: GROUP AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DATE FEBRUARY 2012 NUMBER MODEL 12-AT-005 This TSB supersedes TSB 11-AT-006 to add 2012 models Description: To diagnose a transaxle for slipping or Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734, P0735, P0736, P0729, P0730 or P076F (incorrect gear ratio), perform a stall test using: ALL The A/T Tester Plus, P/N TCAE 125B (for 4 and 5-speed models except Genesis Coupe) The stall test procedure shown below. Applicable Vehicles: ALL WARRANTY INFORMATION: Normal warranty applies SERVICE PROCEDURE: Stall Test Procedure without A/T Tester: 1. Check the automatic transaxle fluid level according to the following TSB. Add ATF, if necessary, to bring the level within the HOT range. TSB MODELS GEARS ATF 11-AT ~ Genesis Sedan, Equus & Genesis Coupe AT-004 Tucson, Santa Fe, Sonata, Sonata HEV, Elantra & Accent AT-001 Genesis Sedan, Equus 4.6L, Genesis Coupe 3.8L AT-005 Genesis Sedan 3.8L Veracruz AT-003 Genesis Coupe 2.0L Turbo speed and 5-speed vehicles (except Genesis Coupe 2.0L) 4 & Circulate To: Service Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Fleet Repair

Press and hold the brake pedal, then fully depress the accelerator and record the engine speed. CAUTION Do not hold the throttle fully open for more than 3 seconds.

2 A U T O M A T I C T R A N S M I S S I O N S T A L L T E S T P R O C E D URE 2. Apply the parking brake and place blocks in front of and behind both front wheels. CAUTION Do not let anybody stand in front of or behind the vehicle. 3. Start the engine and move the shift lever to R. 4. Press and hold the brake pedal, then fully depress the accelerator and record the engine speed. CAUTION Do not hold the throttle fully open for more than 3 seconds. Release the throttle and allow the engine to idle in N for 15 seconds. 5. Confirm the stall speed is within the specifications shown in the related shop manual (approximately 2000~2900 rpm at sea level, depending on model). If the stall speed is higher than specification, one or more clutches may be slipping. 6. Move the shift lever to D, then repeat Steps 4~5. Go to Step Move the shift lever to the Sport Mode position (if installed) and repeat Steps 4~5 in Gear 1. Move the shift lever forward to select Gear 2 and perform Steps 4~5. 4 A U T O M A T I C T R A N S M I S S I O N S T A L L T E S T P R O C E D URE SPEED ATM: 2007~ Veracruz 3.8L: Perform a stall test in the following gears B1 B2 C1 C2 C3 1-WAY DRIVE SPORT MODE 1 SPORT MODE 2 DRIVE IN SPORT MODE 4 Test C2 clutch: Drive in Sport Mode 4 th gear and confirm the clutch does not slip or rev to SPEED ATM: 2009~11 Genesis Sedan 3.8L: Perform a stall test in the following gears: B1 B2 B3 B4 C1 C2 C3 C4 DRIVE Engine braking SPORT MODE 1 Engine braking SPORT MODE 2 Engine braking DRIVE IN SPORT MODE 4 Engine braking Test C2 Clutch: Drive in Sport Mode 4 and confirm the C2 clutch does not slip or rev to Test C4 Clutch: Drive in Sport mode 1 and confirm engine braking when decelerating. C D A B E DRIVE SPORT MODE 1 SPORT MODE 2 DRIVE IN SPORT MODE 4 Test E Clutch: Drive in Sports Mode 4 and confirm the E clutch does not slip or rev to SPEED ATM: 2010~11 Genesis Coupe 2.0L. Perform a stall test in the following gears. REV. FRONT L/C FWD INPUT H&LR DIRECT DRIVE SPORT MODE 1 SPORT MODE 2 DRIVE IN SPORT MODE 4 Test Input Clutch: Drive in Sports Mode 4 and confirm the Input clutch does not slip or rev to TSB #: 12-AT-005 Page 5 of 7

6 A U T O M A T I C T R A N S M I S S I O N S T A L L T E S T P R O C E D URE SPEED ATM WITH SPORT MODE (Except Genesis Coupe 2.0L): Perform a stall test in the following gears. 2-4 LR UD OD REVERSE RED DRIVE SPORT MODE 1 SPORT MODE 2 DRIVE IN SPORT MODE 3 Test OD clutch: Drive Sports Mode 3 and confirm the OD clutch does not slip or rev to SPEED ATM WITH PRND321 SHIFT PATTERN: 2001~10 Elantra Sedan and 2009~12 Elantra Touring. Perform a stall test in the following gears 2nd LR UD OD REV 1-WAY D 1 or L DRIVE IN 2 DISCONNECT SOLENOID CONNECTOR AT TRANSALE Test 2-4 Brake: Drive in 2 above 30 mph and confirm the 2-4 brake does not slip or rev to Test OD Clutch: Drive in 3 above 60 mph and confirm the OD clutch does not slip or rev to TSB #: 12-AT-005 Page 6 of 7

7 16. 4-SPEED ATM WITH PRND2L SHIFT PATTERN: 1999~05 Sonata, 1997~01 Tiburon, 1992~1995 Elantra. Perform a stall test in the following gears. LR 2ND UD OD REVERSE D 2 DRIVE IN 3 DISCONNECT SOLENOID CONNECTOR AT TRANSALE Test OD Clutch: Drive in 3 above 60 mph and confirm the OD clutch does not slip or rev to SPEED ATM WITH PRDL SHIFT PATTERN: 1995~99 Accent. Perform a stall test in the following gears. L&R FRONT REAR END 1-WAY DRIVE L DRIVE IN 4TH GEAR Test End Clutch: Drive in 4th gear above 60 mph and confirm the end clutch does not slip or rev to TSB #: 12-AT-005 Page 7 of 7
