2 REGULATION ECE REG 65 We would like to inform you about the European regulation on optical and acoustic signalling for vehicles and trailers. ECE REG 65 The European Directive ECE REG 65 has been effective since the 1st of March This directive defines the requirements for optical and acoustic signals for new vehicles and trailers. From the 1st of March 2014, the regulation shall apply to amber rotating, flashing and indicator lights on existing vehicles and trailers. The directive has been effective for existing vehicles and trailers of emergency services (blue) since the 1st of September Definition of directive: Amber rotating, flashing or indicator light: light, consisting of one set of amber signal lighting. The set must comply with ECE regulation 65 and has been certified accordingly. The set has been mounted in such a way that the signal light can be seen from a distance of 20 m around the vehicle. This is measured at 1.5 m above the road. Vehicle categories The European regulation applies to the following vehicle categories : Vehicles that have at least four wheels and are used for transporting people (Cat. M1, M2, M3) Vehicles that have at least four wheels and are used for transporting goods (Cat. N1, N2, N3) Trailers (Cat. 01, 02, 03, 04) Agricultural and forestry tractors (Cat. T) Off-road mobile machinery (Cat.
