4 AUCKLAND ISLAND PROJECT Survey Overview Contract to LINZ Nautical charting: drying line to 50m depth Full coverage: LINZ MB-1 Standard 85 days on site + Mob + De-mob 2 vessel solution: 22m & 19m LOA 5 surveyors, 6 vessel crew Crew rotations & vessel resupply Completed 3,993 survey line miles 250nm south of NZ 52 South Kongsberg FEMME, Nov Dave Field 4

6 SYSTEM SELECTION Driven by the Spec s LINZ MB-1 standard Similar to IHO Order 1a, but with defined target detection requirements Three along track and three across track strikes Target size 2m for depths < 40m, and Target size 5% of depth > 40m Target detection criteria were critical to the conduct of the Auckland Islands project Why Kongsberg MBES Existing relationship with KM Existing equipment holdings LINZ requirement for quality backscatter - readily delivered in.all format Motion compensation: Roll compensation is available with most systems, so was not a deciding factor The Pitch compensation for the EM2040C was an important factor, and most significant factor in selection and subsequent planning Kongsberg FEMME, Nov Dave Field 6

8 SYSTEM UTILISATION - KELP Thick kelp hampered operations in many areas. The design of the mount was such that kelp was captured by the pole. EM2040C was generally good at seeing through the kelp too a point.. Kongsberg FEMME, Nov Dave Field 8

16 SUMMARY Auckland Island project Challenging System selection Met the spec s System installation Worked well Utilisation Kelp I think we achieved more coverage than we thought we would Problem Pitch stabilisation..
