1 RADIATION HARDENED ISOLATED DC/DC CONERTERS SB30-28-FAMILY 28 dc In 30 Watts Total Power Single, Dual, Triple Output +2.5dc, +3.3dc, +5dc, +7dc, +12dc, +18dc DESCRIPTION The SB series of DC-DC converters are designed for the rigors of space, characterized for Total Ionizing Dose and Single Event Effects. Operating at a fixed frequency of 220 khz, the SB family of parts can be externally synced with other frequency sources. Each output is individually adjustable +/- 10%. The SB30 family is ideal for driving digital loads where one rail has multiple Simultaneous Switching Outputs (SSOs) where an adjacent output voltage is unaffected, providing extra stability in digital systems such as FPGAs, DSPs or CPUs. The SB30 can also be produced in a single or dual version. Contact PMG sales for more information on this options as well as customization to meet your program requirements. The same rigorous design methodology employed for custom designs has been applied to the SB Family of standard products. Designed and manufactured in the USA, the SB30 family requires an ITAR license for export which we will be happy to facilitate. 7 ELECTRICAL PARAMETERS Notes: Electrical Performance Characteristics 1. Parameter guaranteed by design. 2. Parameter verified during line and load regulation tests. Regulation is specified for 10% to 100% loading on all outputs. 3. Outputs turn off for IN< 12. Outputs drop linearly for 12 < IN < Reserved 5. Unit operates down to no load on each output. Regulation limits extend to ±5%. 6. Guaranteed for a D.C. to 20MHz bandwidth. Tested using a 20kHz to 10MHz bandwidth. 7. Capacitive load may be any value from 0 to the maximum limit without compromising dc performance. A capacitive load in excess of the maximum limit may interfere with the proper operation of the converter s overload protection, causing erratic behavior during turn-on. 8. Overload power dissipation is defined as the device power dissipation with the load set such that OUT = 90% of nominal. 9. Load step transition time 10 μs. 10. Recovery time is measured from the initiation of the transient to where OUT has returned to within ±1% of its steady state value. 11. Line step transition time 100 μs. 12. Turn-on delay time from either a step application of input power or a logic low to a logic high transition on the inhibit pin (pin 3) to the point where OUT = 90% of nominal. Outputs rise in unison. Each output remains within 20% of the normalized their nominal monotonically. 13. Load Regulation relative to output voltage at 50% rated load. 14. Line Regulation relative to output voltage at 28dc input. 15. For operation at temperatures between +85 C and +125 C, derate power linearly from 50 watts to zero. Parameter limits are not guaranteed. 9 OUTPUT OLTAGE SEQUENCING Power Supply outputs turn ON and OFF in the specified order. The rise of the output voltage of a successor is prevented until its designated predecessor has risen above 85% of its rated nominal voltage. The decay of the output voltage of a successor is prevented until its designated predecessor has fallen to below 75% of its rated nominal voltage. The turn OFF sequence can not be maintained during an Input oltage fault or an Over Current or Over oltage fault condition. Power Good The Power Good signal is active high when every Output oltage of the Power Supply has risen above 85% of its respective rated nominal voltage. The Power Good pin is connected to the +5 output through a 10kohm internal resistor. The Power Good output is held below 1.7 volt until all outputs are above 85% of their nominal level. Up to 5 ma may be sourced into the Power Good pin. Short Circuit / Over Current Limit The output current is limited by the built in current limit circuit, to protect the Power Supply and the load from overstress. 10 OUTPUT ADJUST CONFIGURATION In the diagram above: 5 and 5 ADJUST = O1 3.3 and 3.3 ADJUST = O2 2.5 and 2.5 ADJUST = O3 Outputs can be adjust +/- 10% using the scheme shown. 11 APPLICATION DATA Under oltage Operation The Input Under-voltage protection feature prevents operation at an undesirably low input voltage. Minimum hysteresis is 5 volt. The outputs are guaranteed to turn on at the specified minimum input voltage and guaranteed to be disabled below 70% of the specified minimum input voltage. Inhibit Function An external inhibit port is provided to control converter operation. The inhibit circuit is referenced to the DC Input return. The interface is as shown below. The inhibit signal may be an open-collector or TTL type. Interface must sink 5 ma minimum to inhibit the output. 15 MECHANICAL INTERFACE SB30 Mechanical Installation Application Note 1 Mechanical interface The surface on which an SB30 power supply is mounted is recommended to be flat to.005 in or less, with a surface roughness of 32 microinches or less. The mounting hole pattern and housing footprint for SB30 power supplies is shown in Figure 1. 2 Mounting fasteners Figure 1: Mounting hole pattern and housing footprint The fasteners recommended for mounting of SB30 power supplies are 4-40 size fasteners, made from A-286 steel, used with NAS620C4 washers.
