12 Appendix: About AQL Our inspectors throughout China have adopted the ISO 2859 tables (also known as AQL tables) to measure acceptable levels of quality of the products they inspect. These tables are a US standard with equivalents in all national and international standardisation organisations. ANSI/ASQC Z1.4, ISO 2859, NF06-022, BS 6001, DIN General inspection level II is mostly used as reference inspection level, and we'll use it here as a "default inspection level". You'll be able to modify this to choose a better customised option by filling in the inspection booking form. For a hypothetical product inspection for an order of 3,000 products with an Acceptable Quality Level of II, the letter K in Table 2 indicates that the sampling size in table 1 should be 125 units. We use 2.5 for Major mistakes and 4.0 for mistakes. For an AQL of 2.5, the corresponding acceptance number is 7. That means if we find more than 7 major mistakes or over 10 minor mistakes (as can be the tables below), we will disapprove the production at the factory. From that point the customer will decide on how to continue the process. DEFINITIONS Defects: A unit of product is classified as Defect when a quality characteristic departs from its intended level or state with a severity sufficient to cause an associated product or service not to satisfy intended usage requirements.
