Sunday Breakfast Run 11 March 2018 The Doors Restaurant [R500 to Parys] From Left: Specs, Chris, Allan [Chapter Pres], Noreen, Harold [Chapter Vice], Gerald, Beatrix. At the Chapter Social the members had decided that the Sunday Ride would be to The Doors so that Cages could follow along. It was also decided that seeing The Doors only opens its doors at 09h00 that those riding would meet up at 007 Engen Garage in C/ville from 08h30 to leave at 09h00. There were 5 bikes and 1 cage that left at just after 9h00 for the venue. Harold had been delegated to take the lead and Specs volunteered to sweep. The pace was set at a nice comfortable speed and formation formed. [Continued on Page 2] Page 1

All settled for the Ulysses Bottomless Coffee, 4 x R40 and 4 x R60 Plaas Ontbyt. At the end of the matter where can 8 x people have a good hearty sized breakfast for only R and with a bottomless coffee? Then a decision was made to go to Momento for a cold one before heading home. At Momento we were turned away as our names were not on the list apparently. The Kraalkop Hotel has a new owner and it is now under Owner Management. Photo right the group in the Kraalkop Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at the large number of patrons were having a Sunday s lunch - must be the Buffett that s popular and draws the diners. Great ride with wonderful company making it a great day out. All reported home safe on the Chat Group. Page 2

3 MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETING & SOCIAL 10 MARCH 2018 Venue: Home of Beatrix & Gerald The gathering of members started from as early as 15h30 and the meeting was scheduled to start at 16h30. There was a Gold Metal Badge and 4 x Road Captain Course Certificates handed out during the Meeting. The meeting was also trying to finalise a venue for the Chapter Break-a-way Year End Function where one could ride by bike and the cagers could follow if need be. The Pres sweating at the table and the meeting had not yet even started. It seemed that Clarens was chosen over ET as the ET was rather pricy and also could cater for a large booking. The Chapter agreed to the Break-a-way Year End Function to be from November The only remaining item was to choose one out of two venues which were placed on the chopping block. Di Bus Stop seemed to be the provisional favourite. After the Meeting the Social kicked off with a Braai and the ladies spoiling all with some lovely side dishes and deserts. What a feast it was but with the colder weather starting the ladies are going to come up with a Curry & Rice and Desert and later when its colder Variety of Soups and Warm Desert - well that s if the rumours doing the rounds are anything to go by. Being a new Chapter it had been decided to send the Chapter Road Captain plus additional members on a Road Captain Course in Springs on East Rand. Allan the President joined in for the ride and ended partaking in the course and coming away with a Road Captain Course Certificate as well. At the social the Members who passed the course gave an overview of what they had learnt and recommended that all members who ride bikes should ideally attend the next course. With no rain in the air for 1st time in 3 socials the social continued until late. A special word of thanks goes out to both Beatrix & Gerald for opening up their home to accommodate the Chapter Members & Friends. Also a word of thanks goes out to the ladies for all the tasty side dishes and deserts. All reported home safe on chat group. 5 Kilometre Walk 11 March 2018 Tania reported at the Social that she unfortunately couldn t join in on Sunday with the Breakfast Run as she had entered in to do the Carletonville 5 km Walk. While we were gathered at the 007 Engen Garage and waiting for the 09h00 start when Tania rode passed us hooting and waving. Tania had already finished her 5kms Walk and was going to drop of her daughter & friend. Just look, the photo and the large smile after receiving her Medal. Now Tania your next one can be the 10 kms event. We Congratulate Tania on her Great Achievement. Page 4

5 40th CAPE TOWN CYCLE RIDE Or The ARGUS as it commonly called. 11 MARCH 2018 [Boyd] This year was my 16th Argus and for a change we had ideal weather. I started a 8h15. At that time it was quite warm already. I enjoyed my ride making a few stops for pics along the route. A slight wind developed, but that was just to cool us off. I only finished in a time of 6h22, but I guess that's how it goes when one does not train enough. However I enjoyed it thoroughly. No aches and pains afterwards. Ed Note: Thanks Boyd for submitting the photos and you did say that one could chose which ones to use. Well being the Fairest Cape we just had to share them all with the Chapter. 6 What does the markings on your tyres mean? E.g. 180/55 ZR 17 M/C (73W) TL 180 indicates the width of the tyre in millimetres, taken from the widest point of the tyre. 55 indicates the aspect ratio (or height) of the tyre. This is represented as a percentage of the width of the tyre. In this example then, the height of the tyre is 55% of 180mm, which equates to 99mm. Z This is the first of two speed ratings found in the code. It indicates what speed the tyre is capable of being taken over. In this example Z means that the tyre is suitable for speeds over 240kph. R The R represents the construction type of the tyre. R on a tyre = radial construction. Radial A tyre that has its cord plies arranged perpendicular (at a 90 degree angle) to the direction of travel. Belted ( B ) A belted bias tyre starts life as a normal bias-ply tyre, then stabilizer belts are placed on top of the existing plies at different angles. This improves performance over non-belted, bias-ply tyres (also called cross-ply). If it has neither of these letters, it will be a bias-ply tyre. 17 This next number represents the size of wheel that the tyre fits measured in inches. M/C This simply means that the tyre is suitable for motorcycle use. 73 The number portion of the characters in brackets represent the load index of the tyre, which specifies the maximum load the tyre can carry. To find what weight this number corresponds to you will need to refer to a load index table. As you can see, the number 73 means the tyre can carry a load up to 365kg. W TL The W in brackets is the second speed rating found on the tyre. Put simply, the load you put on a tyre has an effect on its maximum capable speed. The W is grouped with the load index (73) because this is the maximum speed of the tyre when it is at the maximum load it can carry. So in this case, if you load the tyre to 365kg then the speed rating of the tyre becomes 168mph as per the above speed index. TL means tubeless tyre. TT means tube type tyre.
