1 The Pod Publisher Thoughts from your Chapter Director April 1, 2013 Volume 23, Issue #4 Greetings to the Pod Hello all and welcome to spring. We still have a lot of wet weather ahead of us but so are some dry days at last. I am really looking forward to some good riding weather. This past March was a good month for the Chapter, our dinner social was at the Port Orchard, El Sombrero and was well attended by about 22 people. Food was good too. On the 9 th several of our members helped Jan and the Faith in Action team with the St. Patrick s Day Dinner. There was also several other events that Chapter O was involved in. Coming up in April is our dinner social, this time at the Aloha Diner in Silverdale, meet there at 6:30 on the 9 th. Chapter C s Spring Fun Run on the 13 th. We ll meet at the Tremont 76 at 6:00am to ride up there. We re going to have our spring maintenance day at our house on the 20 th at 9:00 am and then have a potluck lunch afterwards. To test ride, you must have a Motorcycle endorsement. This bike can be ridden anywhere, immediately. It is ready to ride. The trailer does need a new license tabs. This bike is in outstanding condition, and has too many extras added to it, to mention all of them here. I can only list some of them. The bike has a cargo trailer that has matching paint and custom hand painted pin striping to match the bikes custom hand painted pin striping. The color of the trailer and the bike is Red. It's the Red that Honda only made a limited amount of for the 2004 model year. I have two helmets to go with the bike. Helmets are black color. I also have a heavyweight motorcycle lift with a foot pump that comes with the bike. It is a $ value and has been used once to polish the bike. The bike has AM/FM/CB/Intercom. Some of the extras are; Drivers backrest, w/pocket on the back side Tulsa Extra tall wrap around windshield so you do not get wet or whipped around by wind / (I have the original windshield also) Fork Brace Ring of Fire Lights (Amber) 2 ea. 3 3 The Motorist Awareness Division and Rider Education Program, through a Team effort, are committed to a goal of establishing the safest motorcycling environment possible. While Rider Education trains and educates motorcycle riders, the Motorist Awareness Division (MAD) will focus on educating the motorist community. Our primary goal in motorist awareness will be to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes with other highway users, a reduction in the loss of life, and a reduction in injuries. A New Era in Motorist Awareness - A Simple Plan... The Motorist Awareness Division of GWRRA, through a "Share the Road" campaign will pursue three aspects of motorist awareness. Each of these three are supportive of each other: Awareness Education - Providing motorists with First Class, professional education through our certified seminar presentations. Our presentations will be developed for a multitude of audiences, educating them to a better understanding of motorcyclists, the risks involved, a heightened awareness of motorcycle presence and what they as motorists can do in the prevention of crashes. "Drive Aware!" Awareness Advertisement - Serves as a reminder to motorists that they share the road with motorcycles. Reinforced reminder to the education aspect. Public Relations - Interaction with the motoring public has the ability to reflect highly on GWRRA and to mold public opinion on how they view motorcyclists. Our goal in this area is to build a rapport with motorists and leave them with a feeling that motorcyclists are real people who could be their friend, neighbor, or even a relative. The Motorist Awareness Division has already begun working with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and other organizations within the motorcycling community. Communications and the sharing of information between us and these organizations helps build our programs, sets the stage for success and benefits the entire motorcycling community. 4 Thoughts of the Month Well, we are getting closer to the riding season, so it s time to T-CLOCK our bikes and do a little parking lot practice to tone up for it. T-CLOCK Tires: Check air pressure. They may need to be replaced and the shops aren t as busy as they will be in a few weeks. Clutch: Check the reservoirs for your clutch and breaks. If they are low, fill them. If the fluid is black, change it. Lubricants: How long sense you changed your antifreeze? Oil: Now is a good time to put fresh blood into your bike. Cables and Controls: The throttle cable needs to operate smoothly and return to idle on its own, and the choke cable, if equipped, needs to work smoothly and to return to the open position. Kickstand: Your kickstand needs to operate smoothly and have a good spring to get it back up out of the way when riding. And get out and practice doing tight maneuvering to get back in the groove. It has 45k, ISO grips, HI way pegs and transformer boards, driver floorboards w/ heel-toe shifter, arm rests, driver backrest, comp-u-fire alt. and new battery, K&N air filter, hydraulics have just been cleaned and flushed, clutch slave cylinder is new, tires are 2 yrs. old, lots of add on chrome and parade lights, pin striping done by Steve Ball (he was at wingding in Billings).
