He has a wife of 26 years, Beck, and 3 children that when they reach the age of 5 they begin their motorcycle riding career on youth dirt bikes and on Dad s bikes or in the sidecar.
Road Rights Worth Fighting Session Info Gary Biller Just as U.S. citizens are protected by the U.S. Bill of Rights, motorists and motorcyclists also have specific rights while traveling the nation s highways. The Road Right Worth Fighting For class will be a presentation of a Motorist Bill of Rights. Ten specific rights, including examples of how those rights are exercised or are currently being violated, will be discussed. Gary was an engineer in the power generation industry for 24 years and an active volunteer with the United Way in the Madison, WI community for several years. Gary was appointed President of the National Motorists Association in January 2012 when Founder Jim Baxter retired after 30 years of leading the organization. Gary has been with the NMA since July 2009 The NMA s goal is to create fairer treatment of motorists and motorcyclists by taking the profit motive out of traffic laws and enforcement practices. The American Motorcycle Association was the first organization to support the NMA s founding issue of repealing the 55 mph maximum national speed limit in the 1980 s, and the NMA has had strong ties to the AMA, ABATE, and the Motorcycle Rider s Foundation ever since. The Cost of Impaired Riding Steve Rector Steve is a life member of ABATE of Iowa. He had served as a District Coordinator before becoming the State Coordinator and stepped down after serving 13 years of service to the State of Iowa s motorcycling community. Under Steve s leadership, Iowa has remained one of the three states that remains helmet free although there have been many other accomplishments including right of way legislation enhancing penalties for those who cause death or serious injury, and legislation requiring our Share the Road program be presented in every driver education class in the state. Financial stability was also reached allowing ABATE of Iowa the luxury to purchase our own land where the Freedom Rally is held each year over the 4 th of July weekend. Unfortunately, Steve has found out first hand what the consequences are when being caught driving under the influence. Thus giving him the first hand knowledge to inform others the dangers of drinking and riding.
Officer Responsibility Session Info Jim Legs Korte As we are getting involved in the SMRO s what are we really volunteering for? How much time am I committing to? What are the expectations from the other member s? Legs is going to provide you with the answers to these questions and many more. Normally, Rick Doc Jones presents this class but is unable to attend this year. Stepping in for doc is Jim Legs Korte, ABATE of Illinois member and a States Rep Board Member of the Motorcycle Rider s Foundation. Jim s efforts for Heartland STEAM are much appreciated by this author. Thanks Legs Legislative Activities: Larry Nielson United we stand, Divided we fall? This presentation invites each State s Legislative Officer to participate by providing a history of what has been accomplished by their own organizations, a list of current undesirable laws, and a look forward at your plans. We hope to compare notes to see if cooperation across state lines is beneficial or harmful, and how a united effort may help Presented by Larry Nielson, SSMRO Rep MRF BOD and Legislative Officer of ABATE of South Dakota The Seasoned Rider Jim Dahling. The goal of this class is to acquaint participants with the general effects of aging on the skills necessary to ride safely and to encourage active steps to become increasingly safe and responsible motorcyclists. Jim is a lifelong resident of Minnesota with over 40 years of motorcycle riding experience. Jim has been a member of the Saint Croix Valley Riders for over 8 years. Jim is involved with many different SMRO s and has been for over 30 years. He has ridden through 49 or the 50 states, 7 or 11 Canadian Provinces and has ridden through the European Alps totaling over 250,000 miles and counting. Jim is a MSF Certified Rider Coach and is currently a Motorcycle Safety Instructor through the Minnesota State College and University System.
Session Info Share the Road Bill & Jodi Wessel Share the Road is an Awareness program designed to promote motorcycle awareness by explaining how and why a motorcyclist, dresses and rides they way we do. Currently Bill and Jodi are the Co-Safety and Awareness Coordinators for ABATE of Nebraska. Jodi held several past District Officer positions within ABATE of Nebraska, while Bill earned his Life Membership. They have been married for 30 years with 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Bill began his riding experience at age 19 and Jodi received her license in May Bill is a Maintenance Supervisor for a Real Estate Management Company and Jodi is a Commercial Title Assistant for a Title Insurance Company. They have founded ABATE of Nebraska s Share the Road Program. The 3 R s Drinking and Riding Jeni Boerger 3 R s, it sounds like a password but it s actually an Alcohol Awareness program that doesn t use graphs or statistics to make its point. This presentation puts the responsibility of not riding impaired where it belongs, on You, because only you can decide to Be Responsible, Ride Responsible, and Take Responsibility for your actions. The 3 R s. WARNING one of the video clips is very graphic, the MRF A&E Board felt it necessary to give notice that if you feel the need to leave the room during this video and then return or divert your eyes until the clip has finished that is fine. The clip at the end of the presentation so we hope you attend even if you are unable to stay for the entire presentation. My name is Jeni Boerger. I learned to ride in my early teens and then took back up riding in 2003 when I met Larry Nielson. We have a total of seven kids, five when we met and two ours that we have had. And now two grandkids. I was the State Representative for Turtle Creek Riders Chapter of the South Dakota Abate for 7 years and now a co-editor of the state newsletter.
Share the Road Session Info John Amdor III Perhaps you've heard about "Share The Road" but have never seen a presentation. Maybe you are a presenter already and want to see someone else's presentation to see if you can learn from it to improve your own presentation. In any case, John Amdor will present a condensed version of the Share The Road presentation he does as an STR presenter for ABATE of Iowa, and if time permits following the presentation, John will try to answer your questions about being a Share The Road presenter. Born and raised in Iowa, John Amdor was introduced to motorcycling at a young age as a passenger on his father s motorcycles. He is a husband, father, and Vehicle and Ground Support Equipment Technician for FedEx Express, though not always in that order. In addition to being a licensed rider for over 15 years, John is active in motorcyclist rights as the District Legislative Officer for ABATE of Iowa District 2 and a member of ABATE of Nebraska District 6 and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, and a Share The Road presenter for ABATE of Iowa. John is also the Secretary for Rollin Plains Motorcycle Club of Omaha. When he s not riding or working for motorcyclist rights and safety, John enjoys firearms, computers, Amateur Radio and spending time with family and friends.
