1 Product Manual - MC Wheel Balancing Thank you for purchasing this K&L Product. Please inspect this unit for damage prior to use. This manual will review balancing a motorcycle wheel. Please read the entire manual before using this machine. Improper use of this unit may cause serious injury to the operator and other personnel. Contact K&L Representatives if further assistance is needed. All users should be fully trained before using this machine. Keep this manual and related documents near the machine at all times for future use or resale of unit. Note: Unit shown in red with balancing pad kit. Motorcycle clamps and alternate colors available. Additional Information including Instructional Videos can be found at Please note, to correctly and safely use the machine, follow these environmental requirements: RD: <85% (without condensation). Environment temperature: 0-50 C. The floor of the ground should be solid and level to support the maximum weight of the machine. Keep the machine out of a flammable environment. Electrical components in the unit could ignite a fire if exposed to gas, fumes or flammable vapors. 1. ADDITIONAL SAFETY REGULATIONS This machine should only be operated by trained technicians that have fully read and understand this instruction manual. If you have questions, please be sure to contact K&L Supply before operating the machine. Technicians should fully understand the characteristics and the features of the machine. Keep all unauthorized personnel away from the machine at all times. Be sure that additional operators of the machine are properly trained, have read this manual, and are properly trained to work with this type of equipment. correctly and safely. When powering off the machine, do not touch the cables, motors or other electrical components. Do not remove any warning, danger or caution stickers from the machine. If a label is lost or fuzzy, you should change it at once. If the label is missing, please K&L Supply for a new one. K&L Supply will not be responsible for damage or accidents caused by changes and modifications not authorized by K&L Supply.
2 Check that the supply voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the nameplate of the machine. Check the conditions of the wires and the presence of the ground conductor. Ensure that the machine is connected to a standard 110 volt x 30 amp outlet. Connect the power supply cable to the plug with great care and following to the current regulations. WHEN THE MACHINE IS TURNED OFF FOR A LONG TIME IT IS NECESSARY TO DISCONNECT THE POWER PLUG TO AVOID USE BY UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL. 2.INSTALLATION 2.1 Installation Area To install the machine you need a useful space calculated on the basis of the information given in the figure below. From the working position, the user must be able to view the machine and the surrounding area. INSTALLATION AREA MUST BE KEPT CLEAR OF POSSIBLE DANGEROUS OBJECTS. UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL MUST NOT STAND NEAR THE WORKING AND/OR INSTALLATION AREA. THE MACHINE MUST BE PLACED ON A FLAT, LEVEL, DURABLE SURFACE THAT CAN ENDURE THE STRESS OF OPERATING THE MACHINE. THE MACHINE MUST BE FIXED ON THE FLOOR WITH SCREWS AND EXPANSION PLUGS. Note: Distance Shown Is In Millimeters DO NOT USE THIS MACHINE IN AREAS WHERE FLAMABLE VAPORS ARE PRESENT. 3.SUSPENSION OF THE USE In case the machine is not used for a long time, disconnect the power supply and protect all parts that could be damaged by dust. Grease all parts that could be damaged in case of oxidation. In this specific case, protect the shaft and flange 4.ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF THE WHEEL BALANCER Keep the machine and work area clean. Please note: K&L declines all responsibility in the event of claims resulting from the use of non-original parts or accessories. Do not remove or modify any part of the machine (except for service items). Unplug the machine from the socket and make sure that all moving parts have been locked before performing any adjustment or maintenance. Never use compressed air and/or jets of water to remove dirt or residues from the machine. Take all possible measures to prevent dust from building up or rising during cleaning operations. Keep the wheel balancer shaft, the securing ring nut, the centering cones and flange clean. These components can be cleaned using a brush previously dripped in environmentally friendly solvents. Handle cones and flanges carefully so as to avoid accidental dropping and subsequent damage that would affect accuracy. After use, store cones and flanges in a place where they are suitably protected from dust and dirt. If necessary, use ethyl alcohol to clean the display panel. Perform the calibration procedure at least once every six months.
3 5. CONTROL PANEL The machine control panel is shown below. The control panel allows the operator to give commands and enter or edit data. The same control panel displays the balancing results and machine messages. The functions of the various parts of the control panel are described in the table below # DESCRIPTION # DESCRIPTION BUTTON 1&5 Display to show inside/outside imbalance value. 9 MOTO/QUAD selected Wheel Type light indicator (red). 2&4 Light indicator showing inside/ outside imbalance angular position. 3 Imbalance Weight Position light indicator. Group of 5 LEDS (red). Position depends by the Program and Wheel Type selected. 10 Light indicator of the selected unit of measurement: inches/ mm. Group of two light (red) indicators to indicate the selected unit of measurement. 11 Charging indicator light with battery (Optional). 6 F key to access the secondary function of the keys (P7). 7 STATIC program selection key (P10). 8 ALU program selection button (P8). 12 Selected Program Type light indicator (STANDARD/ALU/ STATIC). Group of 3 light (red) indicators to indicate the selected Program Type. 13 Example of standard key: it has a main function (big icon shown inside the key) and a secondary function (small icon shown outside the key). 14 Active stand-by light indicator.
4 6. Keyboard For your convenience, the keys in this manual are numbered from [P1] to [P10] as shown in Figure F6.1. Next to the reference numbers of the keys, there are icons of the keys themselves for easy reading. The ten buttons have a main function indicated by a symbol in the large circle, and a secondary function indicated by a small icon located nearby. Some of the secondary functions feature an LED to indicate their activation. The keys [P7], [P8], and [P10] do not have a secondary function. The secondary function of the keys is identified in this manual with the codes from [F+P1] to [F+P9] as shown in Figure F6.2. To enter the secondary function of a key, press the [P7] then, by holding it down, press one of the keys for which a secondary function is desired; then release both keys. 5 10.2 STANDARD, SERVICE, STAND-BY Operating Modes: The machine features three operating modes: STANDARD MODE: This mode is enabled after the machine is turned on and will be used for balancing wheels. SERVICE MODE: This mode is for setting parameters (such as grams or ounces) or machine calibration. STAND-BY MODE: The machine will enter Stand-BY Mode after 5 minutes of inactivity (the green STBY light will flash when in this mode). To exit STAND-BY mode, rotate the wheel clockwise or press any button (except P7) CHANGING MEASUREMENT PARAMETERS HOW TO CHANGE FROM GRAMS TO OUNCES & FROM INCHES TO MILLIMETERS 1 Enter Service Mode [Hold P7 and Press P3] - Screen will read SER SER 2 Hold P4 to switch between grams and ounces. Hold P5 to switch between inches and millimeters. OR 3 Exit Service Mode [Hold P7 and Press P3] 11.MACHINE CALIBRATION Your unit should come calibrated for Motorcycle Wheel Balancing. To re-calibrate our machine for motorcycle wheel balancing, please follow the directions below. You can also view a calibration video online at For more information or for technical support, please contact us at MOTORCYCLE CALIBRATION Step Setting/Program or Menu Button 1 Attach the Clamping Arms to the unit. 2 Slide an already balanced wheel onto the unit and add the appropriate cone and spacers. 3 Secure the balanced wheel with the locking nut and clamping arms. 4 Turn the Unit On 5 Set the system to Motorcycle Mode [P6] 6 Select Static Balancing - Hold P7 (funtion) and Press P2 (static) 7 Press the distance button. Use the pointer to automatically set the distance of the machine to the lip of the rim. [P1]
6 8 Use the calipers to measure the width of the rim. Press the Width Button [P2]. Use the plus and minus buttons to input the width [P4 & P5] 9 Press the diameter button. [P3]. Enter the diameter into the unit with the plus and minus buttons. [P4 & P5] 10 Spin the wheel clock wise until all displays light up and you hear a beep. Release the wheel while the unit calculates the potential weight needed. Once this is done, use the brake to stop the wheel. Do not add wheel weights 11 Press the function and diameter key together to enter help mode. [P7 & P3] 12 Press the plus key to set the unit to motorcycle calibration mode [P4] 13 Locate the Calibration Arm: a. Rotate the wheel until the clamping arm is at the 12 clock position. b. Press the Diameter key [P3]. The screen should read CAL 1. c. If it reads ERROR, spin the wheel 180 degrees until the opposite clamping arm is at the 12 o clock position. Press the diameter key again. The screen should now read CAL 1. d. When the screen reads CAL 1, the arm at the top will be the calibration arm. Mark this for future reference. 14 Re-spin the wheel clock wise until all displays light up and it beeps. Wait until the screen reads H12 CAL. Use the brake to stop the wheel. 15 Rotate the Calibration Arm to the 12 o clock position. Add the calibration weight to the left side of arm with the weight close to the clamping arm assembly as shown. 16 Re-spin the wheel clock wise until all displays light up and it beeps. Wait until the screen reads CAL H12. Use the brake to stop the wheel. 17 Rotate the Calibration Arm to the 12 o clock position. Add the calibration weight to the right side of arm with the weight facing away from the clamping arm assembly as shown. 18 Re-spin the wheel clock wise until all displays light up and it beeps. Wait until the right side screen reads 50. Press the brake to stop the wheel. 19 Your unit is now calibrated for motorcycle wheel balancing.
7 8.MOTORCYCLE WHEEL BALANCING SPECS AND FEATURES FEATURES SPECIFICATIONS Small compact manual spin balancer RPM: 100r/min Low RPM (100r/min) Max Wheel Diameter: 800mm Precision Accuracy Rim Width: 1-25 Dynamic and Static Balancing Balancing Time: 10 Seconds Car, Light Truck & Motorcycle Mode Max Wheel Weight: 50kg / 110lbs 3 Storage Drawers Power Supply: 1ph 110V CE Approved Packing Size: 1150*700 *1160mm Comes in Blue or Red Gross Weight: kg / lbs 12.HOW TO BALANCE A MOTORCYCLE WHEEL HOW TO BALANCE A MOTORCYCLE WHEEL 1 View Demo at 2 Install The Clamping Arms or Balancing Pad Kit as shown in video. 3 Secure wheel to the unit as shown in the video. 4 Turn the unit on. 5 Set the system to Motorcycle Mode [P6] 6 Select Static Balancing - Hold P7 (funtion) and Press P2 (static) 7 Use the pointer to automatically set the distance of the machine to the lip of the rim. 8 Use the calipers to measure the width of the rim, enter this into the unit. [P2] 9 Set the diameter of the wheel [P3] 10 Manually spin the tire clock wise until you hear it beep. The unit will then calculate the proper position and weight needed. Once this is done, use the brake to stop the wheel 11 Rotate the wheel until the bars on the right side fully light up. 12 Apply the specified weight to the rim at the 12 o clock position 13 Re-spin the wheel clockwise until you hear it beep. The right side screen should read zero. This confirms that balance has been achieved.
