2 ORPscan20 Pocket ORP Tester 1 Thank you for selecting the ORPscan20 pocket ORP tester. This manual provides a step-by-step guide to help you operate the meter, please carefully read the following instructions before use. Installing the Batteries Twist the electrode collar counter clockwise, pull the BNC connector away from the tester. Insert two AAA batteries into the battery compartment, note polarity. Align the slot on connector, gently push the connector into the tester. Twist the electrode collar clockwise until it is tight. Display ORPscan20 pocket ORP tester is equipped with an easy-to-read LCD display that used to show the measured value and mode icons. The following table describes the function of each icon. INDEX: ICON MEAS CAL SETUP HOLD DESCRIPTION Indicates the tester is in the measurement mode. Indicates the tester is in the calibration mode. Indicates the tester is in the setting mode. Indicates the measuring value has been locked. When the battery is depleted, the icon will disappear.

3 ORPscan20 Pocket ORP Tester 2 Keypad The tester has a succinct membrane keypad, names and symbols describe the each function key controls. INDEX: KEY MEAS/HOLD CAL FUNCTION Switches the tester ON/OFF. Locks the measured value, press the key again to resume measuring. Exits the calibration or setting and returns to the measurement mode. Press the key to start the calibration. Press and hold the key to enter the setup menu. In the calibration mode, press the key to set the calibration value. In the setting mode, press the key to select the default option. ENTER Confirms the calibration or selected option. Connecting the ORP Electrode 1. Take out the ORP electrode from the carrying case. 2. Insert the connector into the BNC connector socket on the tester. Rotate and push the connector clockwise until it locks. After the connection is completed, DO NOT pull on the cable. Always make sure that the connector is clean and dry. Prior to Use Remove the protective cap from the bottom of the ORP electrode. Soak the electrode in 4M KCL solution for at least 15 minutes.

4 ORPscan20 Pocket ORP Tester 3 Switching the Tester On and Off Press the Meas key to switch on the tester, the display shows measured value. Press and hold the Meas key for 5 seconds, the tester will switch off. To enable the Auto-Power Off function, please refer to chapter SETUP MENU. Power On 5 sec. Power Off Setup Menu ORPscan20 pocket ORP tester contains an integrated setup menu that is used to customize the displayed option to meet measurement requirements. MENU DESCRIPTION OPTIONS DEFAULT When the option is enabled, the tester will automatically sense a stable reading and lock the measurements. When the option is enabled, the tester will automatically switch off if no key is pressed within 8 minutes. Reset the tester to factory default settings. Enable Enable Enable Setting the default option 1. Press and hold the Cal key for 3 seconds to enter the setup menu, the tester shows a menu item and default option. 2. If necessary, press the Cal key again to select the desired option. 3. Press the Enter key to confirm, the tester moves to the next menu item. 4. Repeat the steps above until the tester returns to the measurement mode. Setting is completed. Option During the setting process, press the Meas key, the tester will exit the setup menu and return to the measurement mode. The Reset function will restore the tester back to factory default settings. If enabled, all of the calibration data and selected parameters will be lost or reset, the tester must be recalibrated.

5 ORPscan20 Pocket ORP Tester 4 ORP Calibration The tester allows 1 point calibration, but calibration is not necessary unless exact readout agreement with a work standard and at a specific ORP value is needed. 1. Rinse the electrode with distilled water. Place the electrode into a known calibration solution. Stir the electrode gently until the reading stabilizes. 2. Press the Cal key, the display shows 000/CAL and waits for entering the calibration value. 3. Press the Cal key to set the value, press the Enter key to confirm. When the setting is completed, ensure the displayed value match your calibration standard (e.g., 200mV). 4. Press the Enter key, the tester begins the calibration. 5. Wait for the reading to stabilize, the display automatically shows END. Calibration is completed. After the calibration, the measurement unit mv will convert to R.mV indicating that currently displayed value is a relative mv value. If you want to resume the absolute mv measurement, please reset the tester (Refer to chapter SETUP MENU). Absolute mv Relative mv

6 ORPscan20 Pocket ORP Tester 5 ORP Measurement Rinse the ORP electrode thoroughly with distilled water. Place the electrode into the sample solution, stir the electrode gently. Record the measured value when the reading is stable. Auto-Hold ORPscan20 pocket ORP tester contains an Auto-Hold function. If enabled, the tester will automatically sense a stable reading and lock the measurements. The icon appears on the display. If disabled, press the Hold key, the meter will immediately lock the displayed value. Press the Meas key to resume measuring. Electrode Care and Maintenance Ensure that the ORP electrode is thoroughly washed with distilled water after each use. In aggressive chemicals, dirty or viscous solutions, and solutions with heavy metals or proteins, take readings quickly and rinse electrode immediately after. If you do not use the tester for long periods, store the electrode into the 4M KCL solution. Cleaning the Electrode Contamination of the sensing element often results in slow response and inaccurate readings. If necessary, clean the element by one of the following procedures. Inorganic Deposits: 1.1 Soak the ORP electrode in 0.1M HCl for 10 minutes. 1.2 Remove and rinse with distilled water, then place in alcohol for 5 minutes. 1.3 Remove and rinse again, and soak in ph4.01 buffer solution for 15 minutes. Oil and Grease Films: 2.1 Wash the electrode gently in some detergents and water. 2.2 Dip the electrode in the 4M KCL solution for at least 30 minutes. Troubleshooting LCD DISPLAY CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION Electrode dried out Measured value is out of range Setting value does not match the calibration solution Electrode is broken Soak the electrode in 4M KCL solution at least 20 minutes. Check the electrode whether clogged, dirty or broken. Reset the calibration value. Replace the electrode.
