See the List of Authorized Accessories later in this manual for a listing of accessories compatible with the Model 540 and 545 stretcher. DESCRIPTION Introduction The 540 and 545 Universal Procedures Stretcher is primarily used to support and transport patients in any treatment or procedures environment, and may be used for general examinations and procedures. The stretcher s litter top is hydraulically adjustable through use of a foot pedal. The table top is infinitely adjustable from a full horizontal table position to a full sitting position through the use of a pneumatic Fowler assist. Also the table top can be pneumatically adjusted into the Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg positions. Additional features and options are described below. Features Installation Description The Model 540 / 545 General Transport Stretcher has... a hydraulically adjustable table top height which can be adjusted from 60.3 cm (23.75 in.) to 85.7 cm (33.75 in.) through the use of a foot pedal. a pneumatic assisted Fowler backrest which can be easily adjusted from full flat (horizontal) position to a full sitting (+90 ) position. A crank Fowler or a manual Fowler is available as a factory option. an X-Ray Fowler (factory option) which accepts standard X-Ray cassettes. a pneumatic assisted table top which allows the table top to be easily adjusted into the Trendelenburg (+2 ) and Reverse Trendelenburg positions (-7 ). a braking and steering system which can be controlled from all four corners of the stretcher. The True Direction Steering system is standard; it has a steer caster, normally located on the patient s right foot end of the stretcher, which locks when steering is engaged, allowing the stretcher to be steered easily from the head end of the stretcher. The Rite Trac Steering system (5 th wheel) can be ordered from the factory; it has a 5 th wheel, located on the center column of the stretcher, which contacts the floor when steering is engaged, allowing the stretcher to be pivoted from its center for better steering / turning control. full length, tuck-away siderails which prevent finger pinching, allows closer access to the patient, and allows for a zero transfer gap for easier patient transfer. 5

Also used to unlock the Knee-flex bail rod when the litter top is being returned to the flat or knee-flex position. used to secure the cassette holder in position after it has been positioned as desired. 8 Foot Pump Pedal used to raise and lower the litter top: when foot pump pedal is pumped with the foot, the litter top raises upward smoothly. When foot pump pedal is depressed all the way down and held, the litter top lowers at a controlled rate. Controls & Indicators OPERATION WARNING The maximum patient weight allowed on the stretcher litter top is kg (500 lbs). Failure to adhere could result in severe personal injury to patient. 9

13 True Direction Steering (Standard) A 2 HA WARNING Always engage steering when transporting patients to ensure control over the stretcher s path. Also, seek assistance when transporting a patient down a steep incline to prevent loss of control of stretcher. Failure to do so could result in personal injury to patient or staff or could result in equipment damage. NOTE The steer caster on a stretcher is the caster which is located on the patient s right side, foot end of the stretcher, unless specially ordered differently from the factory. To determine where the steer caster is located for your particular stretcher, depress the green end of the caster control pedal (steer position) and then move the stretcher around while observing the casters. One caster fork will lock while the remaining three will free wheel. The caster with the locked caster fork is the steer caster. 0 Engage steering by locking the right front steer caster (), as viewed from the head end of the stretcher, in the trailing position. To lock the steer caster in the trailing position, go to any corner of the chassis and position the caster control pedal (2) into the free (horizontal) position. Then, push the stretcher from the head end and move it forward approximately 30.5 cm (2 in.); this will put the steer caster in the trailing position. Now, depress the green end (A) of the caster control pedal until it remains approximately 45 below horizontal (steer posi-

14 tion). To steer, grasp the siderails from the head end of the stretcher and push. Rite Trac Steering - 5 th Wheel (Optional) A 2 HA WARNING Always engage steering when transporting patients to ensure control over the stretcher s path. Also, seek assistance when transporting a patient down a steep incline to prevent loss of control of stretcher. Failure to do so could result in personal injury to patient or staff or could result in equipment damage. Engage steering by depressing the green end (A) of the caster control pedal () until it remains approximately 45 below horizontal (steer position). This lowers the 5 th wheel (2) down until it contacts the floor, engaging steering. To steer, grasp the siderails from the head end of the stretcher and push.

15 Neutral Steer A HA There may be instances when it is desired to have all four casters in neutral steer (free wheel) mode instead of the steer mode. For example; when positioning the stretcher in a room or turning the stretcher around. To engage the neutral steer (free wheel), position the caster control pedal () into the neutral steer (horizontal) position (A). All four corner caster forks are now unlocked, allowing the stretcher to be pushed in any direction. 2

16 Braking 2 A HA56400 WARNING Make sure the stretcher does not roll with the brakes engaged. Also, make sure to engage the brakes when the stretcher is left unattended. Failure to do so could result in personal injury to patient or staff or could result in equipment damage. The central braking system locks all four corner caster wheels (). To engage the brakes, go to any corner of the chassis and depress the red end (A) of the caster control pedal (2) until it remains approximately 45 below horizontal (brake position). After applying the brakes, try to gently push the stretcher. The caster wheels should not roll at all; if they do, remove the patient and discontinue usage of the stretcher until maintenance can be performed. 3

17 Litter Top Height Positioning The litter top can be hydraulically positioned at any height between from 60.3 cm (23.75 in.) to 85.7 cm (33.75 in.). The standard foot pump pedal () is located at the foot end of the stretcher, but some units may also have an optional foot pump pedal on the head end of the stretcher. HA5600 NOTE Do not depress the foot pump pedal () all the way to the floor, because this will cause the litter top to lower. If the litter top drops inadvertently while attempting to raise the litter top, the release valve may be out of adjustment; decrease the pumping stroke until service can be performed. To raise the litter top, depress the foot pump pedal () until increased resistance is felt. Then, release the foot pump pedal and repeat until the litter top is at the desired height. To lower the litter top, depress foot pump pedal () to the floor. This will open the release valve and allow the litter top to lower. 4
