3 Ford of Europe Fact Sheet Page 3 January 2009 Ford of Europe We re making progress: 2008: Despite a deep industry decline, Ford of Europe slightly increased its full year market share across its main 19 markets by 0.1 percentage points to 8.6 per cent. In these markets, FoE sold 1,443,800 vehicles, a reduction of 115,200 or 7.4 per cent compared to 2007 (versus a 7.6 per cent industry decline). Sales in the European Direct Markets (EDM) were at 80,500 in 2008, a 23.6 per cent increase (+15,400). Across all of its 51 European markets the company has sold 1,783,500 units down 6.1 per cent or 116,600 versus Overall, Ford Europe was off to a good start in 2008 with the best single quarter of earnings in Q1 since the first quarter 1989 (when we made $755 million) and the best second quarter since 1995 (when we made $583 million). We also made a profit of $69 million in Q3, which was the second time since 1994 that FoE generated a third quarter profit (after 2007), taking 2008 year-to-date earnings to $1.39 billion. Q3 profits have been affected by the softening of European economies as the global economic slowdown impacts Europe and we expect this situation will continue to constrain the business for some time. We will continue to pursue our strategy, which includes matching capacity with demand, as we have a strong, competitive product portfolio, further strengthened by our new small and fuel-efficient Fiesta and Ka. We re investing in our future: In March 2008, the company purchased the majority shareholding of the former Automobile Craiova vehicle manufacturing plant in Romania. This facility joins seven other Ford vehicle assembly plants and 13 engine, transmission, casting, forging, stamping, tool and die plants (including joint ventures) across Europe. The production of the new Ka at Fiat s plant in Tychy, Poland has started in September We re introducing products that people want: Between 2006 and the end of 2008, FoE has refreshed or renewed every model in its portfolio. Ford will export the acclaimed Ford Transit Connect small commercial vehicle to selected North American markets from mid We have re-invented our small car range, starting with the all-new Fiesta currently being rolled out to European customers. The new Fiesta is being introduced globally, but powertrains, interior features and specifications will vary from region to region. It will be manufactured and sold in Europe, Asia and the Americas between 2008 and Production of the European Fiesta commenced last autumn in Cologne, to be followed by Valencia in January All-new Ka debuted at last year s Paris Motor Show, replacing an iconic design that has lasted for 12 years. New Ka is a film star already, with a cameo role in the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. A new 2.5-litre petrol engine and optional automatic transmission was added to the Kuga crossover range. Sustainability: Ford is committed to make mobility more sustainable. By offering high-volume, affordable solutions for millions of customers, we can make a real difference and a meaningful contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of Ford and its customers. In Europe Ford has currently a portfolio of environmentally advanced, low-co2 vehicle technologies available on the market: ECOnetic apart from the ECOnetic variants of Focus and Mondeo now the Fiesta with benchmark setting 98g CO2/km is also available. Flexi Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) Ford is offering one of the broadest FFV portfolios in Europe with variants of the Focus, C-MAX, Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy. Run on E85 (85 per cent bio-ethanol; 15 per cent petrol), petrol only, or any mix of both in one fuel tank (making them flexible in terms of choice of fuel and operation) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Vehicles Depending on local market conditions Ford offers factory fitted CNG and LPG variants of Focus, C-MAX and Transit. Ford continues to work on a portfolio of technologies, fully recognizing there is no single solution. In the near and mid term, our focus will be on the electrification of vehicles (including diesel stop/start, plug-in hybrid technology and battery electric vehicles), as well as on the further optimization of conventional technologies. We will also continue working on technologies that run on alternative fuels such as biofuels of the second generation, and in the longer term hydrogen internal combustion engine and fuel cells vehicles.
