30 Concluding Remarks The Portec III System on the Franklin Street Curve appears to provide friction factors of approximately 0.3 on the top of the rail at the exit of the curve on Track 1. The effect of the Friction Modifiers appears to die out about 150 ft after the end of the curve The Tribometer is not able to make friction measurements on track segment with guard rails or in the Penn Station loop where there is interference between the Tribometer body and the support structure of the rail 30
