1 25 th Midcontinent Paleobotanical Colloquium, March 14 18, 2008 University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama Program Please consult attached directions and maps for venue locations. Friday (14) Afternoon: Check in at Homwood Suites. Those arriving early are welcome to visit the paleobotany lab in the Life Sciences Building (LSCB) (#65 on map) Room 230. For those renting a car, there are several agency offices at the airport. Homewood Suites offers free shuttle service. There is a free courtesy phone with a direct line to them in the airport lobby. As many USA people as I can send will also be coming around more or less hourly during peak arrival times. They will have MPC signs. Evening: Reception with wine, beer, cocktails and food at the Home of Debra and Cooper Stults Rigsby Road Daphne AL. The USA Jaguar bus will arrive at the Homewood Suites parking lot at 5:30 p.m. for transportation to and from the reception. Directions are provided for those who wish to drive (about 45 minutes), but the bus is the way to go so can enjoy the scenery (we cross Mobile Bay) and the drinks. We will return to Homewood Suites around 10:30 pm. Saturday (15) 9:00 5:00. Scientific session. Instructional Laboratory Building auditorium (ILB 140) (#60 on map). Vans will arrive in the Comfort Suites parking lot at 8:30. The Homewood Suites shuttle is also available. Those wanting to drive may do so (~ 3 mile drive see directions). The detailed schedule is attached. 5:00. Mixer. Alumni Hall (#79 on map). We will walk as a group to this venue. USA Biology professor Dr. Jack O Brien will give a brief presentation on the Confederate submarine the Hunley, which was built in the church next door. 6:00. Banquet. Terrace Room Student Center (SC) (#95 on map). This venue is very close to Alumni Hall and we will walk there as a group. USA Marine Sciences Professor Dr. Rich Aronson will present the talk Got Crabs? Climate Change and Biological Invasion in Antarctica.

2 Sunday (16) Field Trip to a newly discovered Pleistocene plant fossil site on the Mobile River with a brief stop at Ellicot s Stone. Vans will arrive at the Comfort Suite parking lot at 9:00 and return ~ 3:00. Boxed lunch will be provided. USA biology instructor Mr. Smoot Major will point out interesting extant flora at the site. USA Earth Sciences Professor Dr. Doug Haywick will discuss the Geological setting.

Turn Left on Airport Blvd. The Hotel is Located 3 Miles on Right, Directly Behind TGI Fridays. From I-10: Follow I-10 to I-65 North. Follow Directions for I-65. From I-65: Exit at Airport Blvd (exit 3) and head West. Go five miles and the hotel is on the left behind TGI Fridays. Directions from Homewood Suites to USA campus (see attached campus map for specific meeting venues). Start out going NORTH on PROVIDENCE PARK DR E toward AIRPORT BLVD 0.1 miles Turn RIGHT onto AIRPORT BLVD 0.8 miles Turn LEFT onto HILLCREST RD. 0.8 miles Turn RIGHT at light onto OLD SHELL RD 1.0 miles Turn LEFT onto N UNIVERSITY BLVD 0.3 miles Turn LEFT onto campus. Park in any lot near ILB. 0.1 mile
