4 Billing Terms for Natural Gas Service Therm - The quantity of heat energy which is equivalent to one hundred thousand (100,000) Btu. Customer Charge - Covers costs incurred for metering, meter reading, billings, etc. MGE bills out the customer charges in dollars per day. Distribution - A charge for delivering natural gas. The charge covers distribution system costs such as local pipes and customer service expenses. Does not change monthly but is adjusted periodically after review by state regulators.

5 Billing Terms for Natural Gas Service (cont.) Supply or Commodity - The cost of natural gas that MGE buys for its customers is passed through to customers as a separate charge on the bill. It changes monthly depending on the: Current market price of natural gas. Price of gas in storage. Financial hedging that mitigates volatile price changes.

7 Billing Terms for Electric Service Kilowatt (kw) - One kilowatt equals 1,000 watts. Kilowatt-Hour (kwh) - This is the basic unit of electric energy equal to one kilowatt of power supplied to or taken from an electric circuit steadily for one hour. One kilowatt-hour equals 1,000 watthours. Customer Charge - Covers costs incurred for metering, meter reading, billings, etc., exclusive of demand or energy consumption. MGE bills out the customer charges in dollars per day.

8 Billing Terms for Electric Service (cont.) Distribution Service - The network of wires and equipment that carries electric energy from the transmission system to the customer's premises. The costs to support, operate, and maintain this local delivery system are included here in MGE's rates and are usually priced in cents per kilowatthour for energy-only customers and in dollars per kilowatt for demand-billed customers. Demand, Customer Maximum 15-Minute - The greatest rate at which electrical energy has been used during any period of 15 consecutive minutes in the current or preceding 11 billing months.

Electricity Service - In MGE's rates, this is the network of generating plants, wires, and equipment needed to produce or purchase electricity (generation) and to deliver it to the local distribution system (transmission). Priced in cents per kilowatt-hour for energy-only customers and in dollars per kilowatt and in cents per kilowatt-hour for demand-billed customers. Demand, Maximum On-Peak 15-Minute - The greatest rate at which electrical energy has been used during any on-peak period of 15 consecutive minutes in the billing month. Base energy all kwh charge - Charge applied to all energy (kwh) used by time-of-use customers, no matter when it is used.

10 Billing Terms for Electric Service (cont.) Energy, On-Peak 1 - Energy supplied during periods of relatively high system demand as specified by the supplier. For MGE, this is from 10 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Energy, On-Peak 2 - Energy supplied during periods of relatively high system demand as specified by the supplier. For MGE, this is from 1 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Energy, On-Peak 3 - Energy supplied during periods of relatively high system demand as specified by the supplier. For MGE, this is from 6 pm to 9 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
