IQ250/260 Introduction What do you get when you combine an IQ250/260 & a Power Q: Xpert Gateway 600A (PXG600A)? The ability to measure, document and verify energy usage from A: a central location. The combination of these two products yields a Web-enabled meter solution, out of the box, that allows you to view and collect energy data from a central location. In other words, eliminate sneaker net with a simple-to-deploy, intelligent hardware solution. No need to buy new software or do any programming when you combine these products, they are designed to work together from the start. 2 Physical connection of IQ250/260 with PX Gateway The figure below represents the connection between the PXG600A and the IQ250/260 meters. Up to 64 IQ250/260 meters can be connected to one PXG600A for central monitoring. View real-time parameter trends on demand with the Web browser interface. 3 Reasons to consider measuring and verifying energy usage 1. Verification of the utility suppliers accuracy and integrity Metering at the point of coupling with the power provider is critical for all electrical power users. Applying a revenue class meter at the incoming line allows the user to confirm the accuracy of the utility meter and bill. Additionally, a revenue class meter can document the type, magnitude, and direction of power quality related events. Many are caused by the power provider, who in a deregulated environment should be held accountable for the quality of supplied power. Where multiple utility meters feed one site, utility verification at each of the metering points allows users to compare multiple bills with an aggregate bill that includes a coincidental peak demand charge. In many cases, this can result in considerable cost reductions that can be negotiated with the power provider. Below is the energy reading that is displayed on the Gateway home screen. 2. Identification of energy consuming loads The next step in any successful energy management program is the identification of the loads within a facility that consume the most energy. This will allow users to begin prioritizing energy reduction efforts including shedding non-critical loads, shifting loads to an off-peak rate period, and targeting inefficient operations for further action. Sub metering at this level should encompass all medium voltage feeders and most large capacity low voltage assemblies, including both main devices and feeder breakers. Below is the power reading that is displayed on the PXG600A home screen. The graphical symbol next to the value indicates that it can be graphed over time as well as logged in a data file. Below is an example of a graph created from the PXG600A when clicking on the graphical symbol

4 One other way to do data analysis is to click on the Data Log box on the main screen. By selecting View the Data Log, you have the opportunity to view or save the data in.csv format. The data will open up an Excel spreadsheet. 5 By selecting Data, Pivot Table Report in Excel, the following Pivot table can be generated. After selecting the Pivot Table s layout, you can select to display only the value of interest as well as different dates of interest. Once a Pivot Table is created, a Pivot Chart can be created as shown below. Pivot Charts allow you to select the variable you would like to trend as well as the date and time

6 3. Documentation of energy reduction efforts By installing sub metering devices throughout the distribution system, users will be able to benchmark the effectiveness of energy reduction efforts. Such practices include both load management and the installation of high efficiency products. Verification of the implemented programs provides feedback as to the magnitude of success of each effort in addition to documenting all monetary savings. This is the critical step in rationalizing all energy related expenditures.
