2 FUNCTONAL DESCRPTON The MESSRNG seat belt load cell is designed to measure forces at the seat belt during automotive crash or sled tests. Due to its lightweight and durable design and smooth exterior surface without exposed screws the impact on the seat belt is negligible. The seat belt load cell consists of a transducer body and two removable bolts. The belt is easily attached by removing the bolts from the transducer body, laying the belt on the transducer body and screwing the bolts lightly. The transducer body is equipped with strain gauges, implemented as Wheatstone full bridge, that change their electrical resistance proportionally to the force acting at the seat belt. The standard equipment includes a Dallas-D module and built-in linearization electronics for output correction. The integrated 90 pull relief reduces the risk of cable damage. Figure 1: Dimensions of the seat belt load cell CABLE CONNECTON The transducer comes with a user replaceable quick change cable that is connected to the transducer body by a plug-in connection. The quick change cable is equipped with a LEMO 1B connector. n case of cable damage during a test the user is able to replace the cable himself by simply opening the attachment screws. 3 WRNG Figure 3: Cable-core colors and plug configurations (pin assignment according to customer specification) CALBRATON Besides the initial calibration of the seat belt load cell, regular inspections of the transducer by the MESSRNG calibration laboratory are recommended. The calibration intervals depend on the actual use of the transducers but should be at least annual. n order to calibrate the transducers correctly for actual use, it is recommended to send a sample of the seat belt (approx. 10 m) along with the order.
