2 Executive Summary This document provides a short technical description of the Incubator Installation Kit designed by Boggi S.r.l. for an Italian EMS operator. The Kit represents a very cost/effective solution for the fast loading/unloading of the Draeger TI-500 Incubator on the AS365N3 helicopter. It is in an advanced stage of the EASA certification process. The Kit flexible design allows easy adaptation with minimum modifications to other types of floors/helicopters. Doc. 3 Description This kit is an installation system for a Draeger TI-500 Globe Trotter incubator on the helicopter AS365N3 fitted with HEMS floor of Bucher kit P/N ARA-AS365N2-AC50. Fig. 1 : installation of the incubator on the helicopter AS365N3 in the rear part of the passenger cabin The system is fully composed by the following Items : Full stand alone Draeger TI-500 Globe Trotter incubator A stretcher (stainless steel tubes AISI 304) A mechanical interface between the Bucher floor and the Stretcher made of stainless steel (AISI 304) The incubator is a commercial item used by the medical service in hospitals and for transportation of new-born kids by ambulances. The incubator is fixed on the stretcher by quick release pin, and it can be easily transported also by ambulance vans before/after the HEMS flight. When the stretcher and the incubator are on helicopter, they are linked to the helicopter floor by a specially designed base. Doc. ID 365M00300-PED-00 Boggi s.r.l. All rights reserved. Page 3 of 8

4 The incubator is fixed to a stretcher that can be used also to carry the incubator, as well as loading it on the ambulance. The frame of the stretcher has the double possibility to be fixed on the helicopter, and on ambulance. The stretcher is fixed to the helicopter by a special designed base, that is fixed to the helicopter HEMS floor by 8 double stud fittings with brackets. On the ambulance, the stretcher is fixed to the floor by standard fixing points normally used by the sanitary service. The stretcher has foldable legs with wheels for loading on helicopter and ambulance, but these legs and wheels do not constitute the attaching points of the whole system. Wheels are the kind normally used on sanitary stretcher, with direction locking system, and brakes. The stretcher can have also an auxiliary foldable stand for medical devices (pumps, monitor, vacuum pump,..). This stand can be unfolded / folded during flight or drive. Key features The system is originally designed for Bucher floor as helicopter interface, but it can be modified for other type of floor/helicopter, following certification basis assessment, and relative investigation; the system is under EASA certification as STC for Dauphin AS365 N3 the loading and fixing action to helicopter floor takes only few seconds; saving of time is granted for loading and unloading from ambulance to helicopter and viceversa; in case of emergency, the system can be immediately evacuated both from left or right side of helicopter. In case of impediment, only the incubator, or only the baby can be evacuated, requiring few seconds for disengaging from stretcher; the weight of the stretcher and interface base, is comparable to a normal EMS stretcher + support; the system has a competitive price related to EMS market. 6 Loading and unloading of system Before the stretcher + incubator can be loaded on helicopter, the base must be installed and fixed to the HEMS helicopter floor by the 8 single stud fittings. After this action is completed, the stretcher can be driven close to the right side of helicopter (main cabin door) in order to position the front loading wheels on the helicopter floor. At this time the guard of the release system, positioned on the opposite side, can be removed, and the knob of the front locking system can be pushed, so only at this moment, the front legs can be disengaged and start the folding by pushing the whole stretcher toward the helicopter. The pressure of the legs on the right side of the helicopter, needed to fold the legs, is not harmful to the helicopter structure. The front loading wheels are driven to the front attaching points by the V shape of the base. Continuing the action, the side of the back legs get in touch with the side of helicopter structure, and at this point also the knob of the rear locking system can be pushed, so the rear legs can start to be folded. Continuing to pull inside the stretcher, the rear legs get completely folded, and the rear loading wheels lay on the helicopter floor. At this point, also the rear bar of the stretcher engage the two major pins of the base, and the locking pin can be inserted. See next figures for the loading and fixing action. Doc.
