2 1. General The Pinger SJ-05 was developed by S.J. Elektronik to have together with the DLS-1A or DLS-2A Sonar the right units to trace divers or divers to find their target if it is marked with the SJ-05 Pinger. Transmitting frequency ist factory set to 40 KHz transmitting frequency to be within the passive range of DLS Sonar. Other frequencies on request. 2. Operation If Pinger SJ-05 is put into water and gets down to 1 meter, it switches on itself. A soon as the pinger switches on, the transmitting section shows a green flushing LED that pinger is transmitting the signal: t= 25цsec = 40 KHz f= 1/25цsec = 40 KHz Switching Characteristic of Pinger: On-time is twice of Off-time:

3 As soon as pinger is taken out of water, it stops transmitting. With full charged battery (12/13,8 VDC/850 mah) transmitter is able to operate 6 hours. Power operating range is 13,8 9 VDC It must be know by user that operating range decreases with power reduction. At 9 VDC the transmitter still has a signal strengh of 250 VAC At 13.8 VDC there is a signal strengh of 380 VAC and at 8.6 VDC STILL a signal strengh of 240 VAC, measured at transmitter head

6 First take the upper O-ring off, put the collar on and than upper O-ring back. O-rings take care that collar doesn t get lost. Botton has 2 ea stainless steel O-rings a rope can be mounted to secure pinger. 3. Maintenance To maintain the pinger it is necessary to have the unit put into normal water after use in salt water. Keep transmitter head free of grease and damages. No other maintenance is necessary. Caution: Please don t open the pinger. The unit is adjusted to appropriate switch on/off time and transmitting frequency. If pinger was opend and got water inside, immedeately send it to factory for repair. 4. Switch On/off The botton of pinger shows a membran which works due to pressure increase/decrease under water. If pressure to membran increases to more than 100 gr/sqcm 1,00 meter, transmitter switches on. If pressure to membran dereases below 50 gr/sqcm 0,5 meter, transmitter switches off.

7 The photo left shows the membran which switches the pinger on in water at about 1 meter. To test it outside water, lightly press this membrane center nipple with a finger. If green LED flushes, pinger works. You also can see if pinger works with an oscilloscope. Put the probe at the transmitting head in a distance of half a centimeter. Press lightly the membrane with a finger. Head is transmitting. Oscilloscope show a sinus wave. In normal air put setting of oscilloscope sensivitiy to 0,2 volt DC. Sinus wave should show. 5. Charging Batteries To chage batteries, pinger must be put into docking station. Charger ist special designed for the pinger to charge via housing. Charger output is 18 VDC.

8 There is no need to take the stainless steel O-rings off. Red LED must be in an upright position. Pinger fits into docking station. Red LED at botton of pinger is on during charge and gets darker when batteries get to 13.6 Volt charge put pinger carefull into docking station - check that pinger is docked correct - plug 230 Volt AC to docking station - disconnect from 230 Volts AC - take pinger out of docking station Pinger contains a special load circuit. Leads ar put to housing via docking station. Docking station to charge batteries
