2 REOWAVE passive The new generation of harmonic filters Fulfill with REOWAVEpassive the following standards: Electrical components are continually becoming smaller, more efficient and cheaper. To achieve this, most applications include components such as thyristors or frequency converters. The components are also known as non-linear loads because their characteristic curve is not a straight line, which leads to many u ndesirable problems. In particular, these include harmonics. Harmonics are an example of the type of problem that are often simply not recognised correctly, but can cause significant malfunctioning particularly with the increasing use of non-linear loads. Harmonics cause, for example, interference phenomena such as: Creating additional losses resulting in unnecessary consumption of energy Reduced lifetime of transformers due to destruction of the insulation Resonances in the supply networks Measurement errors Errors in tripping fuses Serious faults in IT systems. The solution for these problems is the REOWAVE passive! This device is used at the place where the problems arise where the biggest effect can be achieved. REOWAVE passive is based on proven components of the REO CNW family such as REO mains filters and REO harmonic filters which, thanks to their excellent characteristics and the special circuit design of REOWAVE passive, efficiently keep the harmonics away from the mains network. 3 REOWAVE passive Save money with less reactive power In the course of rising energy costs and growing CO 2 emissions minimizing losses in the transmission grid gains more and more importance. An important factor are the reactive currents. These currents do not contribute to the effective power, but stress all components in the current path and cause additional losses to the ohmic resistance component of the lead. Reactive currents are, for example, harmonics caused by the usage of frequency. However, reducing the energy efficiency is not only a burden on the environment because more energy is consumed for a steady performance - at the same time the costs increase for the operator of the installations, as they have to pay the reactive power. Thus, the reactive power is diminished, the energy requirement and the running costs are reduced. 4 REOWAVE passive REOWAVE passive harmonic filter with a potential for savings REOWAVE passive doesn t only give protection against harmonics significant reduction of costs is also possible. The way that REOWAVE passive works results in reductions in current and current harmonics, enabling significantly smaller fuses, cabling and transformers to be used. This filter unit includes a REO mains filter and a REO harmonics filter. The mains filters function is the pre-supression of the mains as well as the shielding against external harmonics. It filters the harmonics caused by the B6 circuit (thyristor, diode bridge etc.), effects a preliminary suppression of network interference, screens the application from extraneous harmonics and enables a cost-saving in equipment selection and energy consumption. Overcurrent indication signal The REOWAVE passive includes compact measurement and monitoring electronics, which constantly measure the current and indicates status accordingly GREEN = power consumption approx 80% (based on the rated current of the filter) YELLOW = power consumption approx 100% (based on the rated current of the filter) RED = power consumption above 10% (based on the rated current of the filter) The status is signalled via a potential-free signal contact and may initiate further action.

If these exceed the safe operating temperature, a potential-free contact will indicate this. Disconnection of the filter function in case of failure If an overtemperature condition is discovered the mains is automatically disconnected after a pre-determined delay in order to avoid permenant system damage. All error messages are reset when the power is again returned to the rated operating condition. Reactive power optimization In order to optimize the reactive power, the filter circuit is only switched on from a certain current, preventing a reactive current component through the filter choke Optionally with corresponding plugs and sockets for immediate use without large installations, - like that, immediate beginning of the savings! Specially developed control circuitry in the REOWAVE passive Plus ensures optimum performance, not only is the unit protected in the case of Overtemperature and Overload but it can also be safely used in the start-up mode of a Variable Speed Drive, by bypassing the internal shunt element of the circuit. This minimize the absorbed reactive power and protects the internal REOWAVE passive filter capacitors. The absorbed reactive power is reduced over the entire range by 30%.
