AUTOMATIC CHARGER AL The charger AL 12/15 FI was designed especially for small installations. It is based on the technique of automatic charger series AL combined with a shore power connection unit.

1 AUTOMATIC CHARGER AL The charger AL 12/15 FI was designed especially for small installations. It is based on the technique of automatic charger series AL combined with a shore power connection unit. This reduces the installation procedure, as only this device and a shore power connector is needed to get a safe AC system with an AC socket and proper charger on board. The RCBO/MCB device and the socket are at the front side. Another connection possibility at the rear side provides a the safe connection of further consumers 230 V/50 Hz. 2 AUTOMATIC CHARGER UP TO 15A i Why a high-quality charger technology? When a battery will be discharged it produces a sulphating on the plates. If the battery wouldn't correctly charged the sulphating becomes sulphate crystals what reduce capacity and the life time of the battery. In case of a very strong sulphating great parts of the electrodes can be permanently damaged. This bad side effect can be reduced at an optimum state by a well controlled charging process. The compact models of automatic charger Series AL 12/10, AL 12/15 and AL 24/8 are designed especially for small plants of up to 2 battery groups (service-starter and battery) and capacities of up to 150 Ah. The compact dimensions and plug connectors facilitate the rapid installation. An optional temperature sensor can be connected to all models as well as the control panel FAL and the digital charging monitor LCM (except AL 12/10). Noise free convection cooling. During the charging operation it indicates additionally all relevant charging parameters, like charging current, temperatures of the batteries and the device status. Also the charging current can be reduced, the configuration changed, and the SLEEP mode can be activated. The sleep mode is activated by pressing the sleep key. This means that the fan stops working and the unit reduces the charging current. The deactivation takes place automatically after 8 hours or by renewed pressing of the sleep key. After that the battery charger begins a new load cycle. The charging current can be reduced in 8 stages manually, in order to reduce the power consumption if the shore power supply is weak. Limiting the charging current results in a reduced shore power consumption. In order to safe this setup you have to leave the menu by the return button.

This results in an overall efficiency at a very high level (90%) and enables the design of very small and compact chargers at a minimal heating even under full load. The new devices are designed for middle and large systems of up to 3 battery groups (starter, main and bow battery). They charge your battery groups and provide enough power for your on-board electrical consumers at the same time. Greatest input voltage range and operation together with AC- gensets Due to innovative switch-mode power supply technology this chargers are working with full rated power even if the AC main power is reduced. So you get the best power at quays with long feed lines and also with gensets. The switch-mode technology with power-factor correction provides an optimal utilisation of the received energy. This results in a low shore power consumption and a high charging power. Integrated is an inrush current limiter which prevents high switch-on currents to avoid the blowing of the fuse/circuit protection at the quay. By using the digital remote control PSM (some versions: LCM) the inrush current can be reduced if the shore power is weak. The units come with a digital graphic display which show all data as: charge current, charge voltage, battery temperature and mode. All charge characteristics and further parametres can be adjusted and set by the keypad. Each automatic charger series ALC has a PBUS (CAN bus) interface in order to connect a system monitor PSM. Also there is the possibility to connect up to 3 temperature sensors and a LED control panel FAL via pluggable screw terminals. Charging of several battery systems The automatic chargers have up to 3 separate charging outlets depending on type. Each outlet can be adjusted to the type of battery connected (main or starter battery). Thereby all configurations of main and starter batteries can be charged by a single unit. The available charging current will be split and each battery group will be charged exactly to its needs. 8, 10, 15, 30, 50, 80 AND 100A Informative and operational display for the adjustment of different battery systems The integrated display with graphic display and keypad allows an easy control and adjustment of all functions of the charger. Well readable are the charging current, the charging voltages and further information. Power reduction and Silent-mode can be activated easily by key-pressing. The charging characteristic of each outlet can be individually adjusted to the type of battery connected (GEL / AGM or open-lead). Also available are a free adjustable characteristic for individual adaption and a power-supply mode. Outlet connectors facilitate the safe connection of all lines even in adverse conditions or limited space. They are pluggable until 50A. The bigger chargers have high quality terminals where bigger cables up to 25 mm 2 can be connected. Simultaneously battery charging and power supply of connected consumers If the charger is working, all consumers connected to the batteries are supplied and the remaining current is simultaneously used for charging of the batteries. Temperature controlled fan cooling A built-in temperature monitor protects the charger from overload and overheating. The regulated cooling fan only turns on when needed and can be switched to silent mode by the remote control panel (charger works at off peak power, so no fan is needed, max. 8 hours, time controlled). 39
