2 UCON 60-H Base Fluids The High Performance You Want polyalkylene glycol (PAG)-based products that help formulators meet today s demand for high performance lubricants. Like butanol-initiated PAGs, UCON 60-H Base Fluids feature comparable high viscosity indices, clean burning properties, compatibility with common elastomers, and cloud points in aqueous solutions. But, they also offer performance superior to butanol-initiated PAGs, including: Low friction coefficients High extreme pressure failure loads Low pour point temperatures Water solubility Thermo-oxidative stability 21 CFR compliant (MW > 1500) for use in applications with the potential for incidental food contact. Physical Properties Physical Properties diol-initiated alkoxylated random copolymers of EO and PO. They are soluble in cold water but exhibit inverse solubility at high temperatures. Water-based solutions provide low surface tension, good wetting, and good penetration capabilities. UCON 60-H Base Fluids exhibit low foaming properties. They are compatible with common elastomers, including, Viton A fluoroelastomer, EPDM, Buna A synthetic rubber, butyl and silicone. Figure 1 presents typical physical properties of UCON 60-H Base Fluids. As Shown in Figure 2, UCON 60-H Base Fluids have physical properties similar to butanol-initiated PAGs such as UCON 50-HB Base Fluids. UCON 60-H Fluids provide superior low temperature (pour point) and high temperature performance. The excellent lubricity of UCON 60-H Fluids provides outstanding overall load carrying capacity, film strength, and anti-wear properties. Figure 3 shows UCON 60-H Base Fluids provide a lower friction coefficient and offer greater performance under extreme pressure than corresponding butanol-initiated fluids. As shown in Figure 4, both diol-initiated and butanol-initiated base fluids exhibit cloud points in aqueous solutions. Although cloud points decrease in a similar fashion as molecular weight increases, the UCON 60-H Base Fluids consistently maintain solubility within a higher temperature range.
