11 Summary Visual Representations of SE Artefacts is Key Current Situation 1. Projects are becoming more complex. 2. More and more Stakeholders are involved. 3. Stakeholders have less time to read anything, in particular key Stakeholder. 4. Standard (textbased) modelling tools are very powerful. 5. Standard (textbased) modelling tools are difficult to use/understand for many stakeholders. Possible Solution : Model Based SE with Visual Frontend 1. Define, develop, train and deploy tools with Domain specific Visual representation for SE artifacts. This should help because visuals : - carry more information density - are faster and easier to understand 2. Provide a User Interface with seamless granularity zoom, in order to maintain context and communicate effective to all stakeholders. Examples : Google Earth, Chip Design Tools, Building Construction Tools,... 11

13 Thank you for your interest Author Stefan Haenggi is a Defense Acquisition Project Manager at armasuisse in Bern. armasuisse is the Federal Office for Defense Procurement and the center of expertise in the evaluation and procurement of technologically complex systems for the Swiss Armed Forces. He currently works within the competence center "Command and Control & Reconnaissance Systems". His technical specialty is wireless systems engineering with more than 15 years of experience in Switzerland and USA (Florida Space Coast and Silicon Valley). He received a bachelor degree in information technology from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences.
