Cossonay Production Plant Nexans Switzerland 3 s p e c ia liz e d p r o d u c t io n s it e s The competence center of the Nexans group for HV Power Cable Accessories is located in Cossonay Switzerland (near Geneva) where approximately a hundred people are involved in research and development, design, manufacturing, kitting, testing and delivery of most of the HV Power Accessories offered by Nexans, for voltages up to 550 kv of oil filled and synthetic insulated cables. 3 Global expert in cables and cabling system A modern production tool, like a silicone injection unit for the production of premolded joint bodies, stress cones and silicone coated composite insulators in Switzerland, allows for the manufacturing of HV components with a very high quality and reliability. In addition, very efficient equipment is located in the EPR production center of Euromold in Belgium. Besides the activity in the field of accessories for HV cables, the Swiss Power Accessories Product Line takes care at the Cossonay Plant of The manufacturing of key components for the Nexans MV-cold shrink joint Insulation body and outer jacket made of EPDM material, designated to the cold shrink MV joint, are produced at the Cossonay Plant on behalf of a highly specialized production tool. The joints are completed at the Euromold factories in France and Belgium where the joint concept has principally developed. The commercialisation of Power Accessories for MV and LV cables, and various accessories The accessories intended for the domestic market, like premolded connectors, heat and cold shrink terminations + joints, sold by the Swiss sales channels, are mainly manufactured by the Nexans/Euromold production centers in Belgium, France and Italy.

4 HV Power Cable Accessories ( kv) offered by Nexans for synthetic (XLPE) insulated cables Outdoor sealing ends with porcelain insulator The concept of the good old sealing end with a brown glazed porcelain insulator has a long-term experience with paper insulated cables of more than 60 years. The sealing end includes a premolded slip-on stress cone and is filled up with oil. Composite insulators for various applications O u t d o o r s e a lin g e n d s w it h c o m p o s it e in s u la t o r As an alternative, customers worldwide ask more and more for synthetic insulators. Such insulators are composed of a fibreglass reinforced epoxy tube with two aluminium flanges and insulated by silicone sheds. The special advantages are a low weight, excellent seismic, mechanical and pollution performances and no explosion risk. Thousands of composite insulators have been installed since 1980 by our companies, some of them are in service under very severe conditions, at the full satisfaction of their users. Dry type outdoor sealing ends Since 20 years, Nexans offers slip-on dry type outdoor sealing ends, which don t need any oil or gas filling. A monobloc version available for voltages up to 145 kv, offers many additional advantages like: no risk of leakage; no environmental effect easy handling quick installation

5 HV Power Cable Accessories ( kv) offered by Nexans for synthetic (XLPE) insulated cables GIS sealing ends / Transformer sealing ends For the connection of HV cables to transformer or gas insulated switchgears, Nexans manufacturing programme includes adequate terminations. The GIS sealing ends are designed in accordance with IEC standard, either according to part 1 for fluid filled terminations or part 2 for dry type terminations. Joints Nexans prefabricated high voltage joints ( kv) are basically composed of a premolded elastomer joint body, and an outer casing. A cold shrink joint is available for the 72 kv voltage level. Outer protections for joints are available in different versions: Heavy duty outer protection casing consisting of a strong copper tube and a robust PE covering. Shield brake facilities are integrated, factory made and factory tested Outer protection consisting of a synthetic, rigid cover Outer protection made of heat shrink components Transition joints When paper insulated HV cables have to be connected to synthetic insulated cables, a so called transition joint is needed. Nexans has developed a concept which guarantees a high reliable and compact connection of HV cables of different technologies.

7 Testing and Quality Management All Nexans accessories are in accordance with international standards like IEC or CENELEC or specific country specifications. Type tests have been accomplished under inspection of representatives of institutes like KEMA, CESI or others. Special long-term and ageing tests are running in various test fields. All HV Power Accessories, before leaving one of the Nexans factories are submitted to severe routine test procedures. The complete manufacturing process is covered by the Quality Management System ISO 9001: 2000/ISO 14001: Nexans is the reliable partner for all power cables and accessories up to 550 kv.
