1 Electric cal Installation Level 2 - International Competen nce: Engineering Construction (Red Card) OCCUPATION PROFILE ELECTRICAL FITTER The occupation of Electrical Fitter involves the installation, commissioning, inspection, testing and fault diagnosis of electricall plant and its associated cabling and equipment. Commonly this involves types of equipment such as electrical distribution systems, generators, electric motors, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. To achieve these functions the electrical fitter must be able to interprett technical specifications and drawings and where necessary demonstrate effective reasoning skills in the resolution of faults and problems. Additionally, electrical fitters use traditional hand tools and test equipment. INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCE: ENGINEERING-CONSTRUCTION (ICE) SCHEME ICE Validates knowledge and skills against ECITB Standards ensuring e people working in the engineering-construction industries are technically competent. ICEE recognises the importance of continuous training/assessment through the ICE renewal process. The ICE Level 2 Framework defines the skills and job knowledge required to work in an Engineering-Construction environment. ICE Level 2 At ECITB ICE level 2 the individual is typically tasked with routine installation activities such as; Installation of circuit wiring/cabling g, enclosures and equipment (plant) Installation of circuit protection devices Installation of earthing arrangements to electrical circuits and connected equipment Circuit testing to confirm safety and integrity of the installed circuit/ /system. All activities at this level will be in accordance with the approved circuit diagrams, drawings, technical specifications and all relevantt international/approved standards. Additionally all tasking and subsequent activities will be performed under the direct d supervision of a suitably qualified and experienced person. Page 1 of 5

2 COMPONENTS OF ICE LEVEL 2 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION To achieve the ICE Level 2 Award candidates must successfully completee the following: ECITB International Health and Safety Passport (IHSP) Foundation A minimum of 2 Electrical Installation Skill Specific Technical T Tests (Level 2) A minimum of 2 Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2) ECITB International Health and Safetyy Passport (IHSP) - Foundation The aims of the ECITB IHSP scheme are to ensure that all site s personnel worldwide have reached a recognised level of Health and Safety knowledge and a awareness and to enable them to work on site more safely, reducing the health and safety s risk to themselves and others around them. To ensure individuals reach the requiredd level of Health and Safety knowledge, all delegates on each of the courses MUST successfully complete the necessary training programme, which in all casess includes at least one examination. Successful candidates will then be rewarded by being issued their unique IHSP photographic passport, transferable worldwide. Electrical Installation Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2) To achieve the ICE Level 2 award candidates must successfully completee a Minimumm of 2 of the Electrical Installation Skill Specific Technical Tests listed onn page 3. Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2) To achieve the ICE Level 2 award candidates must successfully complete a Minimum of 2 Skill Specific Technical Tests listed on pages 3, 4 and 5. Relevant ECITB TECHNICAL TRAINING UNITS are availablee for candidates to attain skills required to undertake the ECITB Technical Tests ICE LEVEL 2 VALIDITY & RENEWALL Validity Upon successful completion of the appropriate ICE Technical Tests a candidate will receive an ICE card, whichh will be valid for 3 years Renewal The ICE renewal process assures a candidate s knowledge, skills and ability are maintained in line with evolving processes and technical requirements. The T renewal process requires each candidate already holding an ICE card to successfully complete a knowledge only test after 3 years. The test must be taken no sooner than 3 months prior to the expiry date on the card and no later than 3 months after the date. Failure to complete the test within this 6 month window will render the ICE card invalid and necessitate full completion once more of all tests. Page 2 of 5

3 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION SKILL SPECIFIC TECHNICAL TESTS (LEVEL 2) TIEI 04 Installing Electrical Distribution Systems The test assesses if a candidate can install a three-phase and neutral distribution board ensuring that the outgoing circuit loads are balanced across the phases. The circuits are to include both single and 3 phase supplies TIEI 06 Installing Circuit Protective Devices The test assesses if a candidate can install circuit protective devices to a three-phase distribution board. Each circuit protective device is to be appropriate for the circuit it is protecting. The distribution board shall contain various circuits for differing loads including three-phase and single-phase circuits. TIEI 13 Installing Earthing Equipment The test assesses if a candidate can install an earthing arrangement to a GRP or similar non-metallic distribution board to which the incoming supply and two outgoing circuits are supplied with PVC SWA PVC cables and glands. Once the earthing is completed the candidate will carry out Earth loop impedance tests on the cables ECITB INTERNATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP - ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION To achieve an ECITB International Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation at Level 2 two more Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2) must be completed in addition to the minimum two Electrical Installation Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2) and two Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2). This brings the total requirement to six Level 2 Technical Tests. A full list of all other Skill Specific Technical Tests (Level 2) is included below.
