1 On July 13 th a fantastic day starting off in the low 70 s and drawing the largest number of cars and spectators ever assembled to the downtown Main St. area. This show is sponsored by the Rapid City Police Dept. with parking assistance by the Counts Car Club. Nearly 450 cars, pickups and antique cars were lined up on both sides of Main Street, from 5 th to 8 th Street and also on 6 th and 7 th, including a row of cars down the middle of all the streets. Cars started lining up for registration and parking as early as 7 a.m. and climaxed with awards at 3 p.m. at the Downtown Square. During the entire period of the show entertainment was taking place in the Square from canine police dog exhibitions to good old Rock and Roll music by Hot Rod Chevy Kevy from Sioux Falls, one of the best 50 s and 60 s Rock and Roll bands to play in any area. The car variety was amazing ranging from wild customs to beautiful street rods and street machines from the 60 s and 70 s. One real eye catching car was a 1956 Chrysler Imperial just purchased by Chris Schmidt from former SD state senator Stan Adelstein. It had been stored in a garage for 40+ years and was towed to the show complete with the barn find dust and dirt covering the black paint. At the awards about 12 special picked awards were handed out by decades, 1920 thru 1929 etc. and were picked by friends of the Rapid City Police Department. I want to thank them for sponsoring this FREE car show as it brings cars out that either haven t been seen for a long time or new cars just built to show off without fear of judging. All in all it appears that the car collecting hobby is alive and well in the Black Hills. Check out some of the cars that were on hand for 2014 and put this on your schedule for next year. It was painted and reupholstered this past winter and looked really good in a deep copper color.

5 It was Saturday, July 26th. and after an early start (7 am) 5 Counts headed south to attend the Custer Car Show which is part of the Gold Discovery Days annual celebration. It appeared that over 100 cars were on hand and once again there were several first timers as participants. The big winner this year was Bruce Peterson from Belle Fourche, SD and one of the wildest radical custom 1948 Buick fastback coupes that I ve ever seen. It was painted and reupholstered this past winter and looked really good in a deep copper color. The variety of cars was quite amazing and cars ND, SD, WY, and NE. All in all, 7 Counts had their cars on display. Good show everybody. See you again next year.
