The functional limit is the maximum static load that the product can endure during use, without deforming. The product will no longer function correctly beyond this load capacity. The breaking load is the static load applicable to the product, which leads to its total failure, either by rupture or deformation. ll Wichard products carry a five year limited warranty against defects in manufacture to the first purchaser if used in accordance with this catalogue s published specifications. Wichard will replace all defective Wichard products, with the sole stipulation that they have not been used beyond the indicated characteristic limitations. Wichard generally recoends not going past 80% of the functional limit. In accordance with international regulations, Wichard excludes from its limited warranty all damages and liability relative to the deterioration of equipment which is not manufactured by Wichard. Wichard reserves the right to modify the characteristics of its products without prior notification. The values and illustrations in this catalogue are not contractual. Corrosion in the marine environment ll Wichard products are passivated. Corrosion attacks stainless steel and is always visible in the form of black coloured roughness. lthough this is dangerous, it is rarely seen in current use, except in cases where martensitic (HR) steel is in total, prolonged iersion. What many people erroneously call corrosion, is really rust, or oxidation. This is due to outside causes. In the marine environment, stainless steel is subject to considerable aggressive forces and is not totally corrosion free. Re-passivation can be accomplished with a passivator such as Wichinox (see page 8). ll stainless steel demands a minimum of upkeep. Stainless steel Wichard uses top-quality grades of stainless steel in its products (see chart). The first type is a low carbon austenitic steel (6L), which offers good mechanical characteristics. They are non-magnetic steels and most of Wichard s products are manufactured in this grade. The second (7.PH) is martensitic steel (magnetic), which is referred to as high-resistance steel (HR). They provide excellent performance under a light load, when you have to haul the rope quickly. Under heavier loads, the force is transferred to a solid stainless-steel bushing, on which the self-lubricating sheave, rotates freely. 21 Ratchet locks «patented» In addition to the advantages offered by its ball-bearing blocks, Wichard also offers ratchet blocks with the same styling, featuring its patented ratchet system. Several versions of this ratchet block are offered to cover all applications. It is fitted with a high-precision machined sheave made of hardened anodized aluminium, which is mounted on Delrin ball-bearings. The ratchet is engaged and released by an ergonomically-profiled slide button. This block can be mounted on a 00 swivel base with a 7 adaptation. 22 Snatch blocks Snatch blocks Fitted to a pad eye or toe rail, Wichard s single handed operation, snatch blocks are highly useful for taking up a rope that is already reeved. The elastomer moulded cheeks make them shock and scratch-resistant. Each one is fitted with a snap shackle allows them to move freely in any position. With its forged highresistance stainless steel arm, the closing system is very strong. It can be opened very easily by pulling on the central plunger pin, as you would with a normal snap shackle.
