9 Our company was formed in 1946 after WW-II. The main focus at that time was importing master coils of steel from Europe to North America. In the late 1950 s we started to import master steel coils from Japan. The company would slit the coils to size to meet the demands of US metal stamping and manufacturing companies. Jack Sutherland, founder of Sutherland Presses, spent a lot of time in Japan and toured many Japanese manufacturing plants. In we imported the first 50 sets of Japanese made Aida metal stamping presses for North America. The pioneering of Pacific Rim presses was not easy in the 60 s as US companies felt that American products were superior. This was the beginning of the end for closed markets and an early look at globalization. The innovative idea of pioneering the resources of other countries has become the backbone of Sutherland s business model. Today we enjoy the rich experience of having spent 50+ years in Japan, Taiwan and China.
