The Oakland Athletics. The attached artwork is intended for Stomper in the Town proposals only and may not be reproduced for any other use.
4 Artists Agreement If selected, you will be required to sign an Artists Agreement prior to starting. A complete copy of the agreement can be requested from stomperinthetown@athletics.com if you are interested in more information. The basic components of this agreement are: The submitted artwork proposal and completed sculpture become the property of Stomper in the Town and the Oakland Athletics. Submissions will not be returned. The artist waives all rights to the designs and completed sculptures. The submitted proposals will be reviewed by the Artist Committee for compliance with the preceding terms and conditions. Once approved, the selected artwork will be made available to sponsors for their review and selection. Upon selection, you will be notified immediately. You will agree that you are the original creator of your design, you will be liable for any changes that effect the sculptures structural integrity, you will depict the artwork as accurately as the design that was submitted and selected and will be responsible for the safe and secure application of the artwork to the sculpture. All completed Stomper sculptures will be finished with a clear, automotive lacquer finish. This finish is very common in these projects and should not affect your artwork. It is necessary for weatherproofing the sculptures. The ONLY art medium that will not work is watercolor paints. Proposal submission deadline is Friday, November 3, 2017 at 12:00 PM. The approximate timeline for application of the artwork to and the completion of the sculptures will be January 10- March 5, These dates are subject to change. Artists will receive a $200 credit at FLAX art & design in Oakland upon delivery of the sculpture to the artist and $1,000 stipend upon successful completion and return of the sculpture to the Oakland A s.
5 General Guidelines The Stomper sculptures will be on exhibit from approximately April 2018 through September 2018 when they will be auctioned to the highest bidder or returned to sponsors who have pre-purchased rights to the sculpture. Proceeds from this event will go to the Oakland Athletics Community Foundation for distribution to local organizations and not for profits. All Stomper sculptures will be placed in areas accessible to the public. Although some of the Stomper s could be placed at indoor locations, most will be outdoors. It is important to keep in mind that Stomper in the Town is an interactive event that allows the public to touch and feel the designs. Designs must be created with DURABILITY and public safety in mind. The audiences will be broad based and of all ages and design should be appropriate for public display. A committee made up of organizers and local artists will evaluate all proposed designs and may reject a design if it, in its sole discretion, does not adhere to the preceding guidelines. Vandalism does occur with these types of displays. Objects that are attached to these sculptures that can be easily removed are attractive for such vandalism so it is important that these objects are secured to prohibit such removal. Repair of vandalized Stomper s will be aggressively explored if possible and evaluated on a case-case basis. The fiberglass sculptures themselves will weigh approximately 150 pounds. There is no base integrated into the design of these sculptures. There will be a temporary plywood base provided to enable the sculpture to stand upright but this plywood will be removed and the completed sculpture affixed to a concrete slab (approximately 3 x5 ) that will weigh approximately 2000 pounds. Therefore, it is important to NOT incorporate the plywood into the completed design of the sculptures. Availability of blank sculptures Selected artists are responsible for coordination with the Oakland A s for delivery of blank sculptures and return of the completed sculptures. The sculptures will be available for delivery after January 10, The $200 credit for FLAX art & design in Oakland will be provided at time of delivery.
6 Designs The fiberglass Stomper may be painted, sculpted, transformed and adorned but the structural integrity and inherent design and physical look of Stomper cannot be compromised. The feet of the Stomper will be the area that is permanently affixed to the concrete bases. Metal tabs will extend from the feet and these tabs bolted onto the concrete base when installed. Valuable tips and information are available about prep and painting as well as recommended materials for enhancing the sculptures. They can be obtained by ing Selection Process Artists may submit as many designs as they wish. The Artist Committee will meet to review the proposals to ensure that the designs conform to the standards outlined above. All selected artists will be notified no later than January 31, 2018 and as early as December 4, Completion of Artwork After the sculptures have been completed by the artists, transportation for statue pick-up can be coordinated with the Oakland A s. Once statue is returned, it will be clear coated with the automotive lacquer. This process and cost is supported through the Stomper in the Town project and not the responsibility of the artist. Artist will not be responsible for the installation or removal of the Stomper statue once they are being exhibited. Artists may be requested to provide possible touch ups once the exhibit is underway. If the artist is not available for necessary touch-ups, another artist may be asked to perform the work. All Stomper s may require touch-up prior to the auctioning of the sculptures and artists will be contacted prior to that time to determine availability/assistance. Before a Stomper is placed on exhibit, the completed sculpture will be inspected by a representative of the Oakland Athletics. If it is determined that the artist s completed Stomper has been produced in substantial conformity with the artist approved design, the Stomper will be approved and the artist will receive the $1,000 honorarium within ten (10) business days. Questions? We are sure you will have a few! Please feel free to us and we will do our best to answer them. Direct your s to stomperinthetown@athletics.com. We look forward to receiving your designs and THANK YOU for your consideration!
