3 I GENERAL. WARNING FOR YOUR SAFETY, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE FOLLOW- ING PRECAUTIONS BE TAKEN PRIOR TO REMOVAL OF THE VALVE FROM THE LINE OR BEFORE ANY DISASSEMBLY:. WEAR ANY PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT NORMALLY REQUIRED WHEN WORKING WITH THE FLUID INVOLVED.. DEPRESSURIZE THE LINE AND CYCLE THE VALVE AS FOLLOWS: A. PLACE THE VALVE IN THE OPEN POSITION AND DRAIN THE LINE. B. CYCLE THE VALVE TO RELIEVE RESIDUAL PRESSURE IN THE BODY CAVITY BEFORE REMOVAL FROM THE LINE. C. AFTER REMOVAL AND BEFORE ANY DISASSEMBLY, CY- CLE THE VALVE AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES. 3. SEAT AND BODY RATINGS - THE PRACTICAL AND SAFE USE OF THIS PRODUCT IS DETERMINED BY BOTH THE SEAT AND BODY RATINGS. READ THE NAME TAG AND CHECK BOTH RATINGS. THIS PRODUCT IS AVAILABLE WITH A VARIETY OF SEAT MATERIALS. SOME OF THE SEAT MATERI- ALS HAVE PRESSURE RATINGS THAT ARE LESS THAN THE BODY RATINGS. ALL OF THE BODY AND SEAT RATINGS ARE DEPENDENT ON VALVE TYPE AND SIZE, SEAT MATERIAL AND TEMPERATURE. DO NOT EXCEED THESE RATINGS. INSTALLATION Refer to the MAINTENANCE section for packing/v-ring set adjustment. If there is weepage past the packing/v-ring set upon installation, it means the valve may have been subject to wide temperature variations in shipment. Leak-tight performance will be restored by a simple packing adjustment described in the MAINTENANCE section. Flow through this Neles-Jamesbury valve can be in either direction. It is recommended, however, that the valve be installed with the insert facing upstream. FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED PRACTICES OF THE GASKET MANUFACTURER WHEN TIGHTENING FLANGE BOLTS. 3 MAINTENANCE 3. General Good operating procedure requires periodic observation to ensure that the valve is functioning well. The frequency of observation will depend on the application. Routine maintenance consists of tightening the bonnet stud nuts (8) periodically to compensate for stem seal wear. Overhaul maintenance consists of replacing seats and seals. A standard service kit consisting of these parts may be obtained through your Neles-Jamesbury distributor or representative. If complete disassembly becomes necessary, replacement of all seats and seals is recommended. Refer to the Service Kit chart below. Tools Tools needed to disassemble Neles-Jamesbury valves such as the "insert field wrench" mentioned in step 4, may be ordered as (kit# ) for 3" and 4" MBV, and (kit# ) for 6" MBV from your local Neles-Jamesbury distributor or the home office. (Refer to Figure 7, p. 7, for tool assembly.) 3.3 Disassembly. Follow the steps in the WARNING section before performing any work on the valve.. Open the valve. 3. If the valve has a handle kit (see Figure 4A, p.6), remove as follows: a) Remove cap screws and lockwashers (6A). b) Lift bracket (A) and handle (A) off bonnet as an assembly. 4. The insert design requires that the insert be unthreaded in a counterclockwise motion using the following method: a. Using the insert field wrench - assemble the field wrench as follows, (Refer to Figure 7, p. 7): a). Place driver (A) into the insert. b). Put the plate (B) on top of the driver (A). c). Place the studs (C) through the plate (B) and flange holes. Thread the nuts (D) onto the stud below the flange. d). On the top side of the plate (B) put a flat washer (E), die spring (F), flat washer (E) and nut (D). 5. Place a pipe or rod through the driver (A) and loosen the insert. 6. Remove the tool and pull out the insert. 7. Place the valve in the vertical position with the insert end up. 8. Lift out the body gasket (65), seat (7), back seal (63). Rotate the stem so that the ball is in the closed position and remove ball (3). 9. Carefully pry the bottom seat (7) and back seal (63) out of the body, BEING CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH THE BODY SEAL- ING SURFACE BEHIND THE SEAT. 0. Remove the bonnet stud nuts (8), compression plate (0) and the gland follower (9).. Press the stem (5) and driver (4) from the top into the valve body and remove it through the insert end of the body.. Remove from the inside, and discard the thrust bearings (70), and secondary stem seal (7), BEING CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH ANY SEALING SURFACES IN THE BODY. 3. Remove the packing/v-ring set (69), BEING CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH ANY SEALING SURFACES INSIDE THE STEM BORE. 4. If valve is to be grounded, clean packing bore so that it is free of rust or foreign material. FIGURE MARK POSITION INSERT BODY 3.4 Assembly. Clean all valve components.. Inspect all components for damage before reassembling the valve. Look for damage to the sealing areas on ball, stem, body and body cap, and look for wear in the bearing areas. 3. Carefully clean and polish the ball sealing surface. It should be free of all scratches and grooves. 4. If the ball is slightly damaged, it may be possible to smooth the sealing surface with crocus cloth or equivalent. If deep scratches are present, replace the ball or return the valve to the factory for service. 5. Place the back seals (63) in the seat grooves (7) located on the flat surface before assembly. (As shown in Figure 4. H and S seat orientations are shown in Figure 5, p. 7) 6. Standing the body () carefully on end, install one seat (7) with the flat surface down. 7. Place the thrust bearings (70), and secondary stem seal (7) on the stem. (See Figure 4 for proper orientation.) 8. Insert the stem (5) with spline driver (4) attached (see Figure 6 for proper orientation) from inside the body through the bonnet of the valve. 9. Install the packing (69) and the gland follower (9) with the beveled side up. (If the packing is V-ring type, be certain that they are installed in the orientation shown in Figure 4.)

Place compression plate (0), inside diameter chamfer down, and raised part toward insert () over stem (5) and studs (4). Install compression nuts (8) on studs (4) and tighten finger tight, then tighten an additional /4 turn.. Screw the insert () into the body until it is fully seated, and then mark its position as shown in Figure. Counting the number of turns, remove the insert.. Place the valve in a vertical position, insert end up, on a clean surface such as a folded rag or a piece of cardboard. Insert the ball (3) rotating it onto the stem driver (4) in the closed position. Make certain that the stem blade is in the middle of the ball slot, i.e. equal distance from the ends of the slot. Rotate the ball if necessary. 3. Place the second seat (7) on top of the ball surface. The back seal must face up, and the seat must be positioned to fit into the inside cavity of the unit. 4. Insert the body gasket (65) into the body and gently press it into the groove. 5. Using a thread lubricant compatible with the flow medium, screw the insert () into the body. Start the insert down by hand while counting the number of turns. While turning the insert down make sure the seat will enter the inside cavity of the insert. 6. When the insert is far enough down so that the seat has entered the cavity, finish tightening the insert with the insert field wrench. Tighten the insert in this step the number of turns from step, minus the number of turns from step 5, until the marks line up according to dimension "A" shown in Table and illustrated in Figure. The insert must be tightened until the spacing between the marks is no more than dimension "A." 7. If the valve has a handle kit (see Figure 4A, p.6), assemble as follows: a) Place bracket (A) and handle (A) over stem (5) and engage the splines. b) Insert lockwasher and cap screws (6A). c) Tighten the cap screw (6A) on the handle. Tighten the bracket cap screws loosely. d) Set proper ball position as follows in step Proper Ball Position for handle stop adjustment: 8. Open Position 8.. Allowable misalignment of ball port, in relation to the body port, with the valve in the open position shall be as follows: " valves - /3 inch maximum 3" and larger valves - /6 inch maximum NOTE: The seat I.D. should not be used to measure misalignment since in many cases the seat I.D. may be larger than the ball and body ports. 8.. The values given above are intended as a guide only, and are not intended to be gaged within thousandths of an inch. They are furnished to provided an appearance standard, and good judgment is the key in marginal cases. 8. Closed Position 8.. Proper ball position will be measured using the following instructions: 8.. With the valve in the closed position against the stop, make a pencil mark on the ball as shown in Figure Open the valve and measure "B" dimension If dimension "B" exceeds those listed, rotate bracket until dimension "B" is met Tighten the bracket cap screws.
