2 Overview The OxySense uses a Bosch automotive lambda sensor to measure oxygen in the exhaust gas of an endothermic generator. This signal is conveyed to the AC20 or 9120 control instrument, where, in conjunction with the temperature input form the existing generator temperature controller, it is used to calculate carbon potential, or dew point if required. A filter is supplied in order to remove large particulates and any excessive water vapour. The OxySense Open is equipped to supply an atmosphere sample, drawn from a generator or furnace, to a lambda probe. Features include: Ability to control flow using adjustable flow meter. Quick and easy access to lambda probe if you need to change it. Installation Mount OxySense Open in a suitable location. Ensure temperature does not exceed 100 deg C and that clean ambient air is available: the Lambda sensor requires reference air to function. Do not insulate the Lambda sensor as it could cause overheating. Pipe inlet and outlet. Wire lambda as follows: White - heater cable (to 12V power supply) no polarity White - heater cable (to 12V power supply) no polarity Black - signal output (to + main input on instrument) Grey - signal ground (to - main input on instrument) The AC20 or 9120 instrument T/C input should be connected to the temperature thermocouple from the endothermic generator. This will enable the instrument to calculate a carbon potential from the sensor mv and the T/C value. Pipework connections The OxySense Open is supplied with brass fittings for use with 8mm copper tube. This is easy to use and will maintain an acceptable pressure in the line as to allow a sample to be supplied to the filter, manifold and sensor without the use of a pump. After passing through the sensor manifold, the sample gas must be passed into a suitable burn-off vent to prevent the build up of potentially explosive gas. This should be installed according to local regulations. Commissioning When commissioning the system, an independent reading should be taken of the exhaust gas, using an SSi DP2000 or PGA3510. The displayed carbon potential or dewpoint should then be adjusted to match this value by adjusting the CO factor (carbon potential) of the hydrogen factor (dewpoint). Please use SSi's Supercalc software (available free on for help on how much to adjust this factor. Please note that no adjustment can be made to the output of the lambda sensor, so no calibration can be carried out on it. Page 2
