2 Series C Specific Product Precautions e sure to read before handing. Design of Equipment and Machinery arning. Construct so that the human body wi not come into direct contact with driven objects or the moving parts of ocking cyinders. Devise a safe structure by attaching protective covers that prevent direct contact with the human body, or in cases where there is a danger of contact, provide sensors or other devices to perform an emergency stop, etc., before contact occurs.. Use a baance circuit, taking cyinder urching into consideration. In cases such as an intermediate stop, where a ock is operated at a desired position within the stroke and air pressure is appied from ony one side of the cyinder, the piston wi urch at high speed when the ock is reeased. In such situations, there is a danger of causing human injury by having hands or feet, etc. caught, and aso a danger for causing damage to the equipment. In order to prevent this urching, a baance circuit such as the recommended pneumatic circuits (page --3) shoud be used. arning Seection. hen in the ocked state, do not appy a oad accompanied by an impact shock, strong vibration or turning force, etc. Use caution, because an externa action such as an impacting oad, strong vibration or turning force, may damage the ocking mechanism or reduce its ife.. Consider stopping accuracy and the amount of over-run when an intermediate stop is performed. Due to the nature of a mechanica ock, there is a momentary ag with respect to the stop signa, and a time deay occurs before stopping. he cyinder stroke resuting from this deay is the overrun amount. he difference between the maximum and minimum overrun amounts is the stopping accuracy. Pace a imit switch before the desired stopping position, at a distance equa to the overrun amount. he imit switch must have a detection ength (dog ength) of the overrun amount + α. or SMC s auto switches, the operating range is between and mm. (It varies depending on a switch mode.) hen the overrun amount exceeds this range, sefhoding of the contact shoud be performed at the switch oad side. or stopping accuracy, refer to page --. arning arning Seection 3. In order to further improve stopping accuracy, the time from the stop signa to the operation of the ock shoud be shortened as much as possibe. o accompish this, use a device such as a highy responsive eectric contro circuit or soenoid vave driven by direct current, and pace the soenoid vave as cose as possibe to the cyinder.. ote that the stopping accuracy wi be infuenced by changes in piston speed. hen piston speed changes during the course of the cyinder stroke due to variations in the oad or disturbances, etc., the dispersion of stopping positions wi increase. herefore, consideration shoud be given to estabishing a standard speed for the piston just before it reaches the stopping position. Moreover, the dispersion of stopping positions wi increase during the cushioned portion of the stroke and during the acceerating portion of the stroke after the start of operation, due to the arge changes in piston speed. Mounting. e certain to connect the rod end to the oad with the ock reeased. If connected in the ocked state, a oad greater than the turning force or hoding force, etc. may operate on the piston rod and cause damage to the ock mechanism. Series C is equipped with an emergency unocking mechanism, however, when connecting the rod end to the oad this shoud be done with the ock reeased. his can be accompished by simpy connecting an air ine to the unocking port and suppying air pressure of. MPa or more. Caution. Do not appy offset oads to the piston rod. Particuar care shoud be taken to match the oad s center of gravity with the center of the cyinder shaft. hen there is a arge discrepancy, the piston rod may be subjected to uneven wear or damage due to the inertia moment during ocking stops. Caution on using the basic stye or repacing the support bracket. he ock unit and cyinder rod cover are assembed as shown in the figure beow. or this reason, it cannot be instaed as in the case of common air cyinders, by using the basic type and screwing the cyinder tie-rods directy to machinery. urthermore, when repacing mounting brackets, the unit hoding tie-rods may get oosen. ighten them once again in such a case. In order to prevent cyinder urching after a ock stop, when restarting or when manuay unocking, a circuit shoud be used to which wi appy baancing pressure to both sides of the piston, thereby canceing the force generated by the oad in the direction of piston movement.. Use a soenoid vave for unocking which has a arge effective area, as a rue % or more of the effective area of the cyinder drive soenoid vave. he arger the effective area is, the shorter the ocking time wi be (the overrun amount wi be shorter), and stopping accuracy wi be improved. 3.
